Term 3 Week 3
30 July 2014
Dear Parents,
Education Week Awards
WOW, what a wonderful week we are having!
It’s Education week and we got off to a bang this week
with our Opening Assembly. So many talents were
showcased with our Koori Choir, our Dynamite Dance
Group, the release of the Support Unit’s DVD about
inclusion, and the presentation of 30 Year Service
certificates to Mrs Smart, Mrs Jenkins and a 20 year
Service certificate to Mrs Godwin. We also presented
the awards for the NSW University tests for Science.
It was great to see so many children participating in
this valuable learning experience.
Today we have the Junior and Senior Assemblies where
the Education Week awards for Consistent Effort and
all-round contribution to school life are presented.
These awards are very highly regarded and I
congratulate every student who received an award.
See the list of winners in this newsletter. We are also
holding the Junior Fun Day and Senior Open classrooms
today. WOW, another busy day at Batemans Bay Public
School.
Tomorrow K-6 will be involved in our Doing Things
Together Day (DTT) based around the theme of
Science and Technology. Loads of
fun and learning for children in
mixed age groups who just love the
hands on fun of science.
School photos are on Monday, please
send your envelopes in ASAP. Details on how to order
your photos can be found further on in the newsletter.
This week our school shines with the excitement of
having families in to school and holding our special
assemblies in Education Week, however, BBPS is a
dynamic, exciting and amazing school each and every
day. As Principal in 2014 I am so very proud of our
students and staff who make our school a great place
to be.
Enjoy your week everyone and remember at our school
the focus is LEARNING CARING SHARING PLAYING

HEAD LICE
Once again there is an increase in the amount of children who currently have head lice in the school,
We ask ALL parents to thoroughly check all their children’s hair and treat where necessary please. One of the
simplest forms of treatment is conditioner and diligent combing with a fine ‘nit’ comb. This process must be repeated over the course of 6-10 days (as this is the breeding cycle of head lice). Also, if your child has long hair,
we ask that this be put back into a hair band to help prevent the spread of head lice to others. This is a burdensome issue for all families, so if we all make an effort we can hopefully eradicate them.
I know with consistent treatment and all families making it a priority, we can significantly
reduce the spread and problem with head lice.
Please see Mrs Maxworthy in the front office if you have any queries.
The cut off time for any change of travel plans must be phoned through the office
by 1pm. This will ensure your message will be delivered to your child’s teacher
before the bell rings.
Thank you for your cooperation.
As the cold weather hits, so do the winter bugs. It’s often hard to know whether to send your child to school or let them
stay home to recover, especially when that means an adult cancelling work. For safety’s sake, if your child seems unwell you
should always keep them home from school and seek medical advice. School A to Z and the NSW Health have created an at –a
-glance chart to help answer your questions about common childhood illness and how long sick kids need to
miss school. If your child is away for more than 3 days please supply a medical certificate detailing their
absence. Find the at-a-glance chart by copying or typing this link into your web browser
