Around six hundred Years 5 and 6 students from our feeder primary
schools enjoyed a Taster Day here at The Stanway School on Friday, 26th
September. Some of our students offered to come into school and act as
buddies and they did a wonderful job of escorting the younger children to
lessons, break and lunchtime activities. As in other years the children took
part in a variety of lessons which gave them some idea of what to expect
when they move up in the next few years.
It is always interesting to see how the younger ones adapt to “big school”
and the buddies helped to ensure that everything was trouble-free and
enjoyable for most.
Thanks to the buddies for their excellent work and also many thanks to our
feeder schools for releasing the students for the day.

COLCHESTER'S FIRST JUNIOR CHESS CLUB.
The Club opened its doors on Thursday 2nd of October 2014 and will meet every week between 4.30
to 6.30 pm at Kingswode Hoe School, Sussex Road, Colchester, CO3 3QJ.
It's a ‘Not-For-Profit’ club and the main aim is to enable juniors of Colchester to learn and play chess
in a friendly gathering. However, to cover the running expenses of the Club and for ongoing
improvement of the facilities, there is a small fee to pay. More details are available on our Facebook
Page 'Colchester Junior Chess Club' or by contacting Mohammud Ally on 07786 326927 or by email
at [email protected].
Parents are welcome to help or wait in the waiting area where free teas, coffees and Wi-Fi are
available. There is also free car parking. The Club will always be supervised by a DBS checked and
qualified chess coach from the ‘Chess In Schools and Communities’ (CSC - a nationwide charity). We
understand that the day and timing might not suit everyone as a lot of children are involved in
different activities. Therefore we are willing to consider running the club on additional days, subject to
interest and availability of the venue.
