IRO and NMT offshore oil and gas mission to Brazil closing date extended
The closing date for the IRO and NMT oil and gas mission to Brazil (15-25
September 2014) has been extended to the end of July 2014. Main goal of
the mission is to visit the offshore shipyards and fabricators in Rio Grande
and Porto Alegre in Brazil’s southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The mission will be organised with the opportunity to visit the Rio Oil & Gas
Exhibition from 15-18 September 2014. For registration and more

Blue Economy Conference Oman
In close collaboration the Government of Oman and the European Union are organising a
conference on the development of a ‘blue economy’. This conference is to be held 8 and 9
September 2014, in Muscat, Oman.
Blue economy relates to the potential of Oman’s coasts and seas as a major source for job
creation and sustainable growth. For realising this growth and job creation, innovation is
crucial across all sectors related to the blue economy. These sectors range from fisheries,
aquaculture and coastal tourism, to offshore oil & gas exploration and transport & logistics.
During the seminar you have the opportunity to participate in one of the 8 organised panel
discussions. These sessions provide a good platform to share your views on specific topics
within the related sectors, which as well are a good opportunity to create some visibility for
your company or organisation towards Omani companies and authorities. In the side lines of
the event B2B meetings will be organised.

EU-US negotiations on Jones Act
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs participant in the EU-US free trade agreement negotiations on the Jones act is
looking for input from the Dutch offshore industry. What Jones Act restrictions are encountered by Dutch
companies that want to work in the offshore oil and gas industry in the US? Generally speaking the Jones Act bans
foreign offshore companies to do offshore work for oil and gas but also for offshore wind in the US using ships that
are not made in the US. Purpose of the negotiations is to create exceptions for certain Dutch maritime industry
activities such as in shipbuilding, shipping, dredging, offshore activities, etc.

Trade mission to Chile
From 30 November-4 December 2014 a trade mission headed by Rotterdam Mayor
Aboutaleb will visit Chile. The mission focuses on the maritime industry (offshore oil and

Offshore Energy 2014
The 7th edition of Offshore Energy will take place on 28 and 29 October 2014 in
Amsterdam RAI. More than 600 exhibitors from all over the world are expected.

Maritime Professionals sought for ‘Record attempt’ Maritime Guest Lectures 2014
During the Maritime Week 2014 an attempt will be
made to break the record Maritime Guest Lectures
in one week. In 2013 314 guest lectures were
presented in one week. The ambition for 2014 is to
organise at least 400 Maritime Guest Lectures and
Presentations.
The guest lectures that count for the record should
take place during the Maritime Week, from
6-14 November 2014. The guest lessons in this
period for the campaigns ‘Zeebenen in de klas’ and
‘Water Estafette’ will count for the record. On
Friday 14 November 2014 it will be disclosed
whether the objective has been achieved.

STC Rotterdam starts a tailor made training HBO Naval Architecture/Maritime Technology (BSc)
On 2 September 2014 the STC-group starts the tailor made training HBO Naval Architecture/
Marine Technology which is meant for professionals in the business community that wish to be
(re)educated to naval architect. The study lasts three years and upon completion you will be
Bachelor of Engineering. Whether you want a different position with your current employer, or
want to work in the maritime sector, after completion of the customised training HBO Naval
Architecture/Marine Technology the opportunities within the sector are very diverse.

IRO Course Oil & Gas
IRO has developed a course that aims at providing a clear view on the ins and outs of the upstream oil and gas
industry, both onshore and offshore.
This non-technical course is set up for people who work in the industry but lack the basic knowledge about it. This
can either be new employees or present employees who do not require to know about oil and gas for their job, but
who need to have a general understanding about how oil and gas came into being, how it is found, how it is
produced, what technology is used and how the industry is organised. The course is not only useful to people who
work for a company in the oil and gas industry, but also for people who provide products and services to the
sector.

The course is given during two consecutive days at the Keppel Verolme yard in Rotterdam. You will receive a
syllabus of which the theory will be discussed during the course and which will serve as future reference book. A
tour will be given at the yard to illustrate what you have learned. Furthermore, you will receive a certificate of

Free basin slots for SME’s at MARIN
MARIN is again offering free basin test slots to assist SME’s with their innovations. The
offer includes 2 weeks tank time (80 hrs, preparation and testing) including assistance of
an experienced MARIN operator who will assist with the tests and one day workshop
with experienced MARIN project leader and project engineer.
