Application Guidelines for Positions within PCCC
2012 Starting Salary Range $31,050 - $34,875 per year
C-COMM 911 is a county-wide enhanced 9-1-1 consolidated emergency dispatch center providing vital
communications for citizens and public safety agencies in Porter County, Indiana. This position can be very
demanding as well as very rewarding. Applicants need not have previous experience to be successful here at
C-COMM 911, however, applicant prerequisites are as follows:















Be a citizen of the USA
Be at least 21 years of age
Be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate
Be of good reputation and character
Not have been found guilty of any felony charges
Be of good appearance and personality
Have a good past work record
Must be willing to work varying shifts, mandatory overtime, weekends and holidays
Have appropriate strength, agility and endurance, mental alertness, emotional stability, resourcefulness
and initiative in handling emergency situations. This shall include non-impaired hearing and speech,
with a minimum of 20/40 corrected vision. All the above are subject to verification by physical and
psychological exams provided by the County.
Read all departmental Rules and Regulations, Policies and Standard Operation Procedures carefully and
abide by them
Have touch typing skills of 35 words per minute (wpm)
Pass FBI criminal history screening
Pass extensive background investigation
Valid Driver’s License
Valid CPR Certificate or ability to obtain certification within prescribed time after hire
Applicants are required to submit a Porter County Central Communications application form along with
supplemental forms. You may pick up an application at the Porter County Central Communications Office
located inside the Porter County Sheriff’s Department at 2755 State Road 49, Valparaiso, IN 46383 or fill out
the online application located at www.portercounty911.org. An original copy with signature is required to be
turned in for consideration. A resume may be attached, but will not be accepted without the Porter County
C-COMM 911 application. Applications will be screened for the required pre-requisites.
Testing Process – Applicants must successfully pass each segment before proceeding:

 Criti-Call – Computer based performance skills analysis
o Keyboard – Ability to type (with headphones) 35 wpm
o Data Entry – 4,250 keystrokes per hour (kph) and 1,711 kph (2 modules)
o Call Summarization (multitasking) – 67% minimum
o Memory Recall (numeric) – 66% minimum
o Map Reading – 70% minimum
o Spelling – 70% minimum
o Sentence Clarity – 68% minimum
o Reading Comprehension – 57% minimum
The remaining modules also determine place ranking after the Criti-Call Skills testing and are
not considered “pass/fail”:
