This is the Cambridge Key English Test for Schools. Paper Two: Listening. Test number three. There are five parts
to the test: Parts One, Two, Three, Four and Five. We will now stop for a moment before we start the test. Please
ask any questions now because you must not speak during the test.
[pause]
PART 1
Now, look at the instructions for Part One.
[PAUSE]
You will hear five short conversations. You
will hear each conversation twice. There is
one question for each conversation. For each
question, choose the right answer, A, B or C.
Here is an example:
Which is the girl's horse?
Boy:Is that your horse over there, with the white
face?
Girl:No. Mine is the one with two white legs. Isn't
she pretty?
Boy: Oh yes, standing next to the black one.
Girl: That's right. Would you like to ride her?
[PAUSE]
The answer is A.
Now we are ready to start. Look at question one.
[PAUSE]
QUESTION 1
ONE. What will they do first at the zoo?
Girl:Let's get something to drink and then go and
see the elephants.
Boy:But the dolphin show starts in two minutes.
I really want to see that.
Girl:Me too! We can get some lemonade
afterwards.
Boy: Good idea! I'm not that thirsty.
[PAUSE]
Now listen again.
[REPEAT]
[PAUSE]
QUESTION 2
TWO. Which girl is Crystal?
Girl:Someone new started at school today, Dad.
Oh! There she is! Her name's Crystal.
Father:Do you mean the girl with the curly hair
who's talking on her mobile?
Girl:Not her. Crystal's hair is straight, but she is
on the phone, and she's got glasses on. Look!
Father: Oh OK, I can see her now.
[PAUSE]
Now listen again.

QUESTION 5
FIVE. What can Jack eat now?
Mother:Come on, quick, John! You'll be late for
school! Have you got your football clothes?
John:It's Tuesday, Mum. Swimming day!
Football's on Friday. I've got a towel in my
bag.
Mother:And don't be late home. You must do some
piano practice this evening.
John:
I know, Mum!
Jack:Mum, I'm hungry! I can't wait for supper.
Can I have some food now?
Mother:There's some nice new bread, Jack — you
can have that with cheese.
Jack:But Peter's eaten the cheese. I'll have it with
jam.
Mother:OK. I'm going to cook you chicken and
potatoes later.

Now look at Part Two.
[PAUSE]
Listen to two students talking about their
teachers. What do they say about each
teacher? For questions 6 to 10, write a letter,
A to H, next to each person. You will hear the
conversation twice.
[PAUSE]
Boy:
Which teacher do you like best?
Girl:That's a good question. Miss Jones is my
favourite — I like young teachers.
Boy:Oh yes, she's your history teacher. Mine is
Mr Benson.
Girl:
Is he the short one with black hair?
Boy:Oh no, he’s well over two metres and he
hasn’t got any hair! I like your French
teacher, Mrs Wilson. She’s very beautiful.
Girl:Yes, she is, but her classes aren’t
interesting. But she’s better than our last
French teacher, Mr Wood — he was even
older than my grandfather!
Boy:You know Mrs Barker, the English teacher
... she’s really nice to everyone and helps us
with any problems.
Girl:I’ve got her next year. What do you think
of Mr Davis?
Boy:Oh, the new sports teacher. He lives near
me. He helped my father when he moved
the piano. He’s much stronger than my
dad. I think he’ll be great for football.
Girl:
Yes — and tennis.
[PAUSE]
Now listen again.

C. You will hear the conversation twice.
Look at questions 11 to 15 now. You have
twenty seconds.
[PAUSE]
Now listen to the conversation.
Martin:Hi. I want to visit this museum with some
friends on Sunday or Monday. Will it be open?
Assistant: Yes, we are open every day except
Wednesday.
Martin:OK. And do you have any cheap tickets?
Assistant: Tickets are more expensive until three p.m.
After that, tickets are half price. The latest
time you can buy tickets is five o’clock.
But we don’t sell tickets after five o’clock
because the museum closes at seven.
Martin:Can we get a special group price? There are
six of us.
Assistant: Last year you only needed four people to
get a group price but now it’s eight, I’m
afraid. So, no, sorry.
Martin:OK. And where do we meet to go on the tour?
Assistant: Can you see the museum shop over there?
Martin:Yes.
Assistant: Past that is the main hall. Wait there. It’s
just before the exhibition room.
Martin: And what does the shop sell?
Assistant: It’s very small, so just postcards. We’re
going to sell posters and books next year.
Martin:Thanks.
Assistant: If you need more information, don’t
phone. The ticket office is often busy. You
can find what you need online. Is that OK?
Martin: Yes, thanks.
[PAUSE]
Now listen again.

Mark:Hi, it’s Mark here. I’m phoning to ask about
the first football practice. Which team am I in?
Teacher: You’re in the A team this term.
Mark: Oh, OK. When is the first practice?
Teacher:Well, your first match will be on the
eighteenth of September, so we’ll have the
first practice on the fourteenth.
Mark: OK, that’s good. What time will it be?
Teacher:Let’s see. We can start at six thirty because
the other team will finish by six fifteen.
Mark:Great. I’ll have time to get back from
school and get changed. Where are we
going to practise? On the school field?
Teacher:No. We have to use the park this winter.
I think it’ll be OK. Is that everything?
Mark: Yes, thanks. See you then.
Teacher:Oh, don’t forget. You need to go and see Mr
Taylor. That’s TAY L O R. Can you do that
before Monday? You need to give him your
name.
Mark:Right.
Teacher:And the other thing is, we’ll have
something to drink there but we have to
pay, so you will need money. Is that OK?
Mark: Fine, thanks.
Teacher:Please listen carefully. I want to tell you about
our school trip to the ‘Life in Amsterdam’
exhibition at the City Museum.
This is an important exhibition of furniture
and paintings from houses in seventeenth-century Amsterdam. You can also see what
people wore at that time.
Anyone can go on this trip, but please try
to go if you enjoy art. It will also be very
interesting for you if history is one of your
favourite subjects.
If you want to come on the trip, you must
bring the money by January the tenth because
we’re going to the museum on January the
thirty-first. I’ll need to know how many of
you are coming before then.
We have tickets for the exhibition at the
special group price of eight pounds per
person. The cost for the whole day, with the
coach and lunch, is only fifteen pounds. So
it’s not an expensive trip.
Don’t give the money to your class teacher.
Take it to Mrs Lucas, that’s L U C A S, in the
art department. So, if you really want to go
on this trip ...
