These Rules apply to all Affiliated Classes

Shows and Qualifying classes at Affiliated Shows to run under the rules of the South West Pony Association's
constitution and general show rules, a copy of which can be obtained from the Secretary, Mrs Medwin
Broad.

All competitors take part at their OWN RISK and are expected to exercise due care at all times and obey all
notices displayed.
The organisers and SWPA accept NO responsibility for any accident, loss or damage to any competitors,
spectators, animals or property.



It shall be a condition of entry that competitors will hold the organisers blameless and indemnify them
against any loss, damage or legal proceedings.
All accidents/incidents/falls should be reported to the Secretary of the Show.

Exhibitors may not knowingly exhibit any Pony/Horse that has been bred, sold, leased or produced by the
Judge, or his/her immediate family or his/her employer, or from which financial gain has been made in the
last two years.

The Judge's decision will be final.

All Ridden Ponies MUST be 4 years old & over.

In Ridden Classes, if a rider falls off at any time whilst in the Ring, both pony/horse and rider MUST leave
the ring, rider dismounted, and take no further part.

Correct British Standard Headgear conforming to PAS015 or EN1384 or ASTMF1163 or current standards
to be worn at all times when mounted, with chinstraps from 3 points on the hat fastened.
SOUTH WEST PONY ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIPS
QUALIFYING RULES
This show is a qualifier for the South West Pony Association Championships
to be held on 5/6/7 September 2014,
at The David Broome Event Centre, Crick, Gwent. To qualify for the Championships:
1. Enter one of the qualifying classes.
2. Be one of the two highest placed exhibits not already qualified within the first
four and receive
a qualification card signed in the ring.
3. Complete the entry form on the qualification card.
4. Return the card to together with any registration fees due within 14 days of this
show. Please Note:
Registration fee for 2014 is £25 to include all members of the family and equines
owned by the family.
TSR Riders Championships - This shows is a qualifier for the TSR Riders
Championships. 1st & 2nd riders qualify & can choose which final they go to
either TSR Gala Show 19th & 20th July, Onley EC, Rugby OR Wales & South West
Riders final 6th Sep at SWPA Champs Show, Monmouth OR Scottish Riders final
13th & 14th Sep Grand Slam Show, Ingliston EC, Bishopton. Full details

Open to all pony/horse and rider combinations
Class 2: Open Lead Rein
Mare or Gelding. Four years old and over, not exceeding 122cms.
Show Pony: Riders not to have attained their 8th birthday before 1st January in the current year.
Show Hunter Pony: Riders not to have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January in the current
year. Mountain and moorland ponies: Open to registered Shetland, Exmoor, Dartmoor, New Forest,
Welsh Section A or B. Riders must have attained their 3rd birthday but must not have attained their
9th birthday before the 1st January in the current year. To be led by an attendant. To be shown in a
SNAFFLE BRIDLE. Lead rein to be attached to the noseband only.
Class 3: First Ridden
Mare or Gelding. Four years old and over, not exceeding 122cms.Show Pony/Show Hunter Pony
Riders not to have attained their 10th birthday before 1st January in the current year. To be shown
in a SNAFFLE .Mountain & Moorland Pony Open to registered Shetland, Exmoor, Dartmoor, New
Forest, Welsh Section A or B. exceeding 128cms. Riders must have attained their 3rd birthday but
not reached their 12th birthday before the 1st January in the current year,to be shown in a
SNAFFLE.
Class 4: Ridden Show Ponies/ Show Hunter Ponies
n/e 128cms, Riders not to have attained their 13th. exc 128cms - n/e 138cms, Riders not to have
attained their 15th birthday. exc 138cms - n/e 148cms, Riders not to have attained their 17th
Birthday.RIDER AGE RULES FOR SHOW HUNTER n/e 122cms, Riders not to have attained their 11th
birthday .exc 122cms - n/e 133cms, Riders not to have attained their 14th birthday. exc 133cms n/e 142cms, Riders not to have attained their 17th birthday exc 143cms - n/e 153cms, Riders not to
have attained their 20th birthday. Int Show Hunter/Show Riding type n/e 158cm riders not to have
attained their 25th birthday.
Class 5: Ridden Veterans
Stallion, Mare or Gelding. 15 years old and over. Riders any age. Please note PC rules for showing
stallions.
Class 6: Open Ridden Coloured
Stallion, Mare or Gelding. Four years old and over. Please note PC rules for showing stallions. To
include, Piebald, skewbald, dun, palomino and spotted.
Class 7: Riding Horse, Hunters, Hacks and Cobs
Mare or Gelding. Four years old and over. Hack not exceeding 160cms. Riding Horse exceeding
148cms not exceeding 158cms. Hunters exceeding 148cms. Cobs exceeding 148cms not exceeding
155cms.
Class 8: Best combination
Stallion, Mare or Gelding. Riders any age. Please note PC rules for showing stallions.
Class 9: Pony Club Pony/Horse
Open to any horse/pony riders under 25 years.
May be asked to jump a small fence.

Class 23: Cradle and Nursery Stakes
Mare or Gelding 4 years and over.
Cradle Stakes ponies: not exceeding 122cms riders not to have attained their 10th birthday. Nursery
Stakes Ponies: not to exceed 133cms riders not to have attaided their 12th birthday. Jumps 1’9.
Class 24 Novice Working Hunter
Stallion, Mare or Gelding, 4 years and over. Open to horse and ponies who have not won a 1st place
in any working hunter class. Open to novice horses to exceed 153cms, novice ponies up to 153cms
(riders to be the correct age for the pony they ride)and novice mountain and moorland ponies to be
registered in their respective breed society’s. Snaffle Only Jumps 2’3.
Class 25: Mountain and Moorland Working Hunter
Stallion Mare or Gelding, 4 years and over. to be registered in their respective breed society’s.Ponies
to be shown in their natural condition.

Mares and Geldings. Handlers to have attained their 8th birthday but no attained their 12th birthday
before the 1st of January in the current year.
Class 28: Young Handlers 12-18 Years
Mares and Geldings. Handlers to have attained their 12th birthday but no attained their 18th birthday
before the 1st of January in the current year.

Group 1: Lead rein: must be lead at all times- cannot compete in the next two sections
Group 2: 13years and under
Group 3: Open
Races: Bending, 3mug, Ball and bucket, stepping stones, flag and sack.
£2 per race, to be paid at the secretary’s tent before 2pm.
Pony Club Show Rules










The organiser of the event has taken every precaution to ensure the health and safety of its
competitors.
The judge’s decision is final
No whips or spurs allowed in the gymkhana
Hard hats to be worn at all times while mounted.
Ages to be followed as stated on the schedule
Led ponies must have the lead rein attached to the noseband only
No galloping outside the rings
NO DOGS with the exception of guide dogs.
Classes may be combined or split at the organisers discursion.
Stallions and colts ridden or in hand to be 15years or older but for mountain and moorland
stallion please see breed society rules.

All classes- £6.00 in advance ( by the 4th May 2014) or £7.00 on the day.
