1. APOLOGIES Tina Barnett, Ryan Gamble, David Heathfield
2. RIDES 2014

2.2 Distribution of leaflets and distributors:

Sun 20 April (Easter Sunday), Easy Route 4 [but start at Castle Farm] (Hatton locks)
- PE + CT, RM (tbc)
Sat 3 May
tba at next meeting
2.4 Date of Meriden ride in May:
Sun 18 May (Cyclists Memorial Service). RM to double-check date. If so, this coincides with KC
May ‘Easy Ride’ (9-16mls): return distance to Meriden is 16mls, hilly. PE to add footnote to
leaflet/poster that this ride is more challenging, will start earlier (9.30) and from Abbey Fields.
3. CYCLE RICKSHAW
3.1 Progress report:
● PE explained his reasons for abandoning the proposal to acquire a Danish rickshaw on short loan.
● An alternative source had emerged in Leamington: a rickshaw advertising ‘John’s garage’ (CT).
PE and HE to arrange to see it. If it is roadworthy and the owner is willing to loan it, it would need to
be given a professional service and insurance would also need to be arranged (Sustrans?, PE); then it
could be used for the early May bank holiday weekend, 3-5 May, as planned.
If it is not roadworthy, it could be used as a stationary exhibit at the Cycling Road Show, 10 May.
● PE asked to see if he can obtain a video of the Danish ‘Ageless Cycling’ project.
3.2 Publicity and sponsorship:
● DB had approached the Round Table for a grant. DB would submit a bid to their business meeting
on 19 March for a contribution to buying a rickshaw. DB thanked for this initiative.
● It should be included in the Foodie Fortnight publicity; RM to liaise with Zoe Court.
● BBC Midlands Today should be approached if the rickshaw will be giving rides;
various members of KC have useful links to Sarah Falkland.

4. KENILWORTH CYCLING ROAD SHOW Saturday 10 May
4.1 Progress report: (RM)
● 4 pitches with market stalls had been booked with Zoe Court in an excellent position opposite the
Rocking Horse cafe and in the disabled spaces of the Talisman car-park. One stand will be KC, shared
with WCC and Sustrans. Others as follows:● Mike Vaughan had agreed to supply a mechanic for bike repairs + sales of light-sets and locks at
cost. RM in discussion with him about prize(s) for a raffle.
● Bike security marking and registration: Nicola Small will supply the kits. RM in discussion with PC
Pete King as to the availability of himself and PC Carl Whitehouse on the day.
● Smoothie Bike Hire, £379 for a day. Nicola has promised contribution of £200 (WCC); RM also in
touch with Zoe Court for a contribution.
Agreed RM go ahead and book; we make no charge for the smoothies unless we need to recoup part
of hire charge.
● Agreed the Greenway Trust should also be invited; RM to contact Nick Hillard.
4.2 Publicity:
● A5 flyers: Nicola Small (WCC) will produce them; RM to provide her with details this week
(sample flyer tabled at the meeting).
●RM to liaise with Zoe Court to ensure the Show was included in the Foodie Fortnight publicity.
●KC banner: This would be needed for our stand on 10 May and Lions Show (7 June).
Agreed HE to proceed with the banner, using the visual image as in our 2014 programme.
4.3 Availability of KC members to help on 10 May:
DB PE RM
5. KENILWORTH TRAVEL GUIDE (Map)
5.1 Progress report: (RM)
●Last week RM had provided Nicola Small with hard copy of advisory routes, alleys/footpaths, cycle
parking and toilets (copies tabled at the meeting), which she would pass on to WCC mapping
contractor.
●RM would produce for Nicola suggestions for revised text for the panels on the back of the map; the
information would combine features from both the Warwick Gates Travel Guide and the Stratford
Cycling Map. It would be the same size as the latter.
● There was not enough time to print copies of the Travel Guide for 10 May, but Nicola hopes to have
a large copy (hopefully A1) to exhibit on our stand at the Cycling Road Show.
6. MAINTENANCE OF CYCLE ROUTES
6.1 Rocky Lane and CPS (CT)
CT to contact Martyn Dalman at the end of March. A local landowner thinks that it will not be a
problem to pile the surplus mud on the strip of land we have identified.
7. OFF-ROAD CYCLE PATH TO LEEK WOOTTON (PE)
Ed Healey (Sustrans) has this route on his radar, but it is currently on the back burner, K2L being a
greater priority. It is also in WCC new Strategic Economic Plan (SEP). If the road remains at 50mph,
the shared route will need to be 3m wide; if the speed limit could be further reduced (say 40mph), the
existing width of the footpath would suffice.

8. FINANCIAL MATTERS (RM)
8.1 Hon Treasurer: Tina has had to stand down, with regret, as Hon Treasurer, so RM will resume
this role pro tem. She still hopes to join us on some rides.
8.2 Current funds: KC has £100.02 left from the £170 ‘Start-up’ grant from Kenilworth Community
Forum (July 2013). This balance will just about cover PE’s expenses for Lions Show booking (£30)
and 2014 programme printing (2.1 above).
In addition, KC still has £720 for Rocky Lane (6.1 above).
8.3 Running costs 2014-15: Agreed to apply to Kenilworth Community Forum (2 June meeting) for
additional funds for running costs in 2014-15. RM to draft an application, to be agreed at our next
meeting (deadline for submission to KCF is 28 April).
9. AOB
9.1 Inconsiderate cyclists: (AG)
Noted that this complaint had been aired at the March meeting of the KCF, especially regarding
Abbey Fields.
9.2 Abbey Fields: (JW)
Ed Healey had completed his assessment for linking up NCN52, proposing three options; his ideas
were presented to a recent meeting of relevant WCC/WDC councillors and officers. The final written
report is still awaited.
