Why not make it a bring-and-buy bake-off? Photo: Dan Burn-Forti/Save the Children 9 Why not raise extra dough by holding a bake sale? Make gingerbread people and ice on some knitwear, or whizz up a batch of jumper cupcakes, then set up a stall and collect some cash. THROW IN SOME SHAPES Think trees, reindeers and robins or presents and puddings – cut yourself some paper templates and use them to go crazy with fabric shapes. If your sewing isn’t up to it, grab some fabric glue. And if your drawing isn’t up to it, cut shapes out of Christmas cards or check out our templates on christmasjumperday.org/ jumperkit 5. CHANGING CHILDREN’S LIVES When Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines in November last year, eight-year-old Justin’s home was one of more than 300,000 houses that were destroyed. We gave his family warm blankets, and water purifiers. We’ve now helped more than 490,000 people here, providing supplies and mobile health services. 14 We’ll continue to work with families as they rebuild their lives. We also helped Justin and his little sister, Grace, get a break from their worries and the chance to play. The safe spaces we set up in the aftermath of the disaster help give children back a sense of normal life for a while. Justin’s mum says spending time there “has taught him to smile again”. 15 Thank you so much for showing some good wool this Christmas. The money you raise will help save children’s lives. HOW YOUR MONEY HELPS Of every £1 you donate, we spend 88p to benefit children directly and 11p to raise the next pound. 1p goes on governance and other costs (average over the past five years). SAVE THE CHILDREN WORKS IN MORE THAN 120 COUNTRIES. WE SAVE CHILDREN’S LIVES. WE FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS. WE HELP THEM FULFIL THEIR POTENTIAL. christmasjumperday.org 020 7012 6400 [email protected] Cover photos: Dan Burn-Forti/Save the Children Registered charity England and Wales (213890) Scotland (SC039570)
