BUILD A
WOOLLY
BIG TEAM
Whether you’re a Fair Isle fanatic or favour
a wackier woolly, there are loads of ways
to look splendid in your Christmas jumper.
You don’t need to buy a jumper: if
you don’t own a festive woolly you
could tinsel up an ordinary jumper,
go all out with sequins and snowmen,
or even knit your own.
Bakers, crafters and fashion-lovers
alike, Christmas Jumper Day has
something for everyone – and the
more the merrier. So, whether you’re
teaming up at work or with friends
and family, get everyone involved…

there’s a range of women’s, men’s and children’s jumpers
all raising funds for Save the Children’s vital work.

WOOLLY AWARDS
The more you raise, the more children you can help.
Here are a few of our favourite fundraising ideas...
Give awards for those who go
beyond the call of jumper duty. Ask
people to donate to vote for the
coolest, smartest and silliest jumpers,
and save a prize for the person who
has raised the most money.
HOW YOUR
MONEY HELPS
£150 could buy warm winter
coats, scarves, hats, boots,
insulation and plastic sheeting
to protect a refugee family
from the elements.
DOUBLE
THE JOY
JUMPER JUMBLE

the office party or at home.
JUMPER JUKEBOX
Create a Christmas jukebox by
playing seasonal song requests
in exchange for donations.

Bring Hollywood to your workplace
or living room with a Christmas

for a donation.
BONUS BUFFET

Why not raise extra dough by holding a bake
sale? Make gingerbread people and ice on some
knitwear, or whizz up a batch of jumper cupcakes,
then set up a stall and collect some cash.
WOOLLY GOOD

HOW YOUR
MONEY HELPS
Why not get creative and design your very own
super sweater? Go glitzy with tinsel, stars and
baubles or use felt for a fuzzy festive scene –
here are some crafty tips.
POP ON SOME POM-POMS
Make the POM-POMS
1.Cut two cardboard circles, with
a small round hole in the middle
of each (see illustration below).
Put them together.
2.Wind around the circles closely
with wool, keeping the winding
even and not leaving gaps.
3.Continue until the circles are
covered completely.

2.
4.Put the scissors in between
the two circles of cardboard
and cut open the wound wool
around the outer edge, holding
all the threads together.
5.Wrap a long piece of thread
between the two circles. Tie
and knot it firmly around the
bunch of threads, and remove
the cardboard.
3.
4.
£450 could buy nutritious
food baskets for six families
of six for a month.
DOUBLE
THE JOY
POWER UP
YOUR PULLOVER
Go one step beyond sewing on
sequins, baubles and tinsel – make
sure your sweater stands out by adding
some fairy lights, a flashing reindeer
nose or even a ho-ho-ho-ing santa.
THROW IN
SOME SHAPES
Think trees, reindeers and robins or
presents and puddings – cut yourself
some paper templates and use them
to go crazy with fabric shapes. If
your sewing isn’t up to it, grab some
fabric glue. And if your drawing isn’t
up to it, cut shapes out of Christmas
cards or check out our templates

CHANGING CHILDREN’S LIVES
When Typhoon Haiyan struck the
Philippines in November last year,
eight-year-old Justin’s home was one
of more than 300,000 houses that
were destroyed.
We gave his family warm blankets,
and water purifiers.
We’ve now helped more than
490,000 people here, providing
supplies and mobile health services.
14
We’ll continue to work with families
as they rebuild their lives.
We also helped Justin and his little
sister, Grace, get a break from their
worries and the chance to play.
The safe spaces we set up in the
aftermath of the disaster help give
children back a sense of normal
life for a while. Justin’s mum says
spending time there “has taught
him to smile again”.
15
Thank you so much for showing some
good wool this Christmas. The money
you raise will help save children’s lives.
HOW YOUR MONEY HELPS
Of every £1 you donate, we spend 88p to benefit children directly
and 11p to raise the next pound. 1p goes on governance and other
costs (average over the past five years).
SAVE THE CHILDREN WORKS IN MORE THAN 120 COUNTRIES.
WE SAVE CHILDREN’S LIVES.
WE FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS.
WE HELP THEM FULFIL THEIR POTENTIAL.
