 2014/15 LGS Officer Candidates Remaining on the board Past‐President President Director Jerry Yunker Craig Glassinger Joey Grimball President‐Elect – Bill Finley Bill grew up in Lake Charles, LA, and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1965. Returning to college on the GI Bill, Bill finished his course work with a BS Degree in Geology in 1974 and an MS Degree in Geology in 1975 from USL. Bill started with Gulf Oil Corp. in New Orleans in 1975 performing regional exploration in the MAFLA (Mississippi Alabama Florida) Region, and eventually well‐site work on COST (Continental Offshore Stratigraphic Test) wells in the Baltimore Canyon. Bill then accepted a position with Forest Oil Corp. in Lafayette in 1979, working development projects and large regional studies in south Louisiana both onshore and offshore. Bill became a free agent in 1990, and began to seek his fortune as an independent, contracting his first consulting job with his previous employer, Forest Oil. Bill joined the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (S.I.P.E.S.) in 1990. As an independent, Bill has worked extensively with computer applications for geologic mapping and seismic interpretation with Forest Oil, ESRI in Columbia, SC, and Dan Tearpock at Subsurface Consultants & Associates, both in Lafayette, LA, and Houston, TX. Bill joined Rozel, LLC in 1996 as a partner (operating under his company, Aquila, LLC) generating prospects and selling deals. The partnership has been successful drilling an average of about 2 wells per year with a success rate of 82%. Bill left Rozel and opened an office in the Oil Center as Aquila, LLC in 2013. A long time member of AAPG, SEG, and SIPES, Bill was the 2008‐09 SIPES Vice President of National Energy, and the SIPES National President for 2009‐10. Bill wrote the lead article in the March 2011 Quarterly, "Whose Fault Is It? A Geologic Empire in the Central Gulf Coast," and also contributed to the New Orleans Geological Society's "Oil and Gas Fields of S. La., 2010." Bill was appointed to the LA Board of Professional Geoscientists as a charter member in 2013. Bill is active in other professional societies and is a retiring Director on the current LGS Board, and is currently seeking the position of President‐Elect for the Society. Vice‐President – Samantha Leone Samantha Leone earned her undergraduate degree in Geology & Geophysics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. After deciding to pursue a career in the oil industry she moved to Louisiana and earned her Masters of Science in Geology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. During her Masters studies she interned with both Orbit Energy and Freeport‐McMoRan Oil & Gas. In 2013 Samantha accepted a full time position with Freeport‐McMoran Oil & Gas as a Geophysicist in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico development team. Samantha served as the LGS treasurer for the 2013‐2014 term. Treasurer – Barry Gidman I was raised south of New Orleans in the town of Marrero where many oilfield service
companies are based. In 1973 I enrolled in the Colorado School of Mines which is located just
down the street from Coors brewery. Some of my more interesting part time jobs included
working for Peabody Coal in an underground mine and KN Energy, a small oil and gas
company.
In 1977 I graduated with a degree in Geological Engineering, and my early employers included
Mobil Oil, Natomas North America, and Coastal Oil. These assignments took me to New
Orleans, Metairie, Houston, and Corpus Christi.
Tenneco brought me to Lafayette in 1984, and I continued living here after Chevron's 1988
acquisition of Tenneco's offshore division. During this period I served the LGS in various
positions including Co-editor of the Bulletin and as a Director.
In 1998 I joined Stone Energy where I have been involved with E&P projects located in the OCS
Shelf and Deepwater, Bohai Bay (China), and South Louisiana. Since 2006 I have been a
member of Stone's Business Development Group which is charged with exploring resources
plays across North America.
Secretary – Justin Guidry Justin Guidry was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. He spent a few semesters at LSU before graduating from UL with a BS in Geology in May of 2011. Shortly after graduation he began employment with Shoreline Energy in Lafayette. He began as a Geotech and is now a Geologist working properties onshore South Louisiana. Director – Rudy Gibbs Rudy was born in Portsmouth, VA, and grew up in Tupper Lake, NY (a small town in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains). In 1996, he received his B.S. in Geology/Chemistry from the State University of New York at Cortland. He moved to Lafayette LA in August 1996 and
received his M.S. in Geology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2001. Rudy began his professional career at Unocal in 1997 and worked there until Unocal pulled out of Lafayette in 2001. In 2001, he began work with Stone Energy where he is currently employed. He married his wife Allison in 2002 and they have two boys.
