Kathy's Kandies and Chocolate Lounge named February Small
Business of the Month
Think chocolate fondue. Artesian truffles. Heart-shaped sweets for your
Valentine. Candy takes the headlines this month as Greater Lafayette
Commerce recognizes Kathy's Kandies and Chocolate Lounge as the
Small Business of the Month Award winner for February. Begun as a
hobby, Kathy Logsdon's long-time downtown business also features
toffee, peppermint bark, peanut butter cups and flavored popcorn. More.

Community Ahead of the
Pack for Fiber
Three students and three student organizations have been selected for
the Community Activity Recognition (CAR) Awards by our University
Relations Committee. To learn more about our student award winners,
click here for biographies. The Purdue University and Ivy Tech
Community College students were recognized at a Purdue Women's
Basketball game and commended for their outstanding community
service, which contributes to enhancing the quality of life in Greater
Lafayette. Many thanks to this year's sponsor, Hamilton Creative
Concrete.
Industrial Luncheon
Local government leaders will present "State of Our Cities and County"
from a business and industry perspective Friday, February 21 from 11:45
a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sylvia's Brick Oven. Speakers include Lafayette Mayor
Tony Roswarski, West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis and Tippecanoe
County Commissioner John Knochel. Cost is $15 for Greater Lafayette
Commerce members; $25 for guests, with registration requested
online or by calling (765) 742-4044.

Dancing in the Streets, Saturday, July 19, will be held in downtown
Lafayette. Uptown Jazz & Blues Festival, Saturday, August 23, will be
held in downtown Lafayette's historic district. If you are interested in your

Eggs 'n Issues
Senator Hershman and Senator Kenley recently introduced Senate Bill 1,
legislation which would cut two taxes for Indiana businesses - both small
and large. Find out the potential impact that this could have on your
business, our community, and our state at Eggs 'n Issues. Professor
Larry DeBoer from the Agriculture Economics department at Purdue
University will provide a comprehensive overview of SB1, followed by a

April-and Business Expo-Just Around the Corner
Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 3, 2014, to join the 100+
business booths and more than 500 attendees at Greater Lafayette
Commerce's Business Expo at Four Points by Sheraton West
Lafayette. This annual event gives others in the business community the
opportunity to preview products and services and to meet owners and
business representatives, all in a single location. Booth space is quickly

Lemonade Day
With all of this cold weather it's hard to think ahead to May, but we are
already planning Lemonade Day 2014! Right now we are in need of
sponsors and partners to sign on with us to make this program a
success. Lemonade Day is set for Saturday, May 17 in Greater Lafayette.

Cullen Reed Named Tippy Connect Member of the Month
Debuting this month, Tippy Connect Young Professionals will recognize
an outstanding member each month during 2014. Cullen Reed, a native
of Roanoke, Virginia, moved to Lafayette when his now fiancé began
pursuing a Ph.D. at Purdue. He always wanted to work in television, so

The Diversity Roundtable and Greater Lafayette Indiana Black Expo
invite you to a luncheon Thursday, February 20, 11:30 a.m., Holiday Inn
City Centre, featuring Rahn Kennedy Bailey M.D., immediate past
president of the National Medical Association and chair of psychiatry and
behavioral sciences at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn. His
speech will give a physician's view of health care here and around the
world, how health care disparities and stigma affect the medical field and
how to get involved in making the health care system even better. Cost is

Greater Lafayette Ranks High for STEM Jobs
Greater Lafayette ranks second in the state for STEM job density, with
13.6 percent of the workforce employed in science, technology,
engineering and math fields. That tops the state's 10.9 percent average
and national average of 11.9 percent, the Indianapolis Business Journal
reports. Since 2001, local STEM jobs have increased 70.6 percent. In
first place: Columbus, Ind.
Mandarin-Speaking Internship/Career Fair March 11
The America China Society of Indiana (ACSI) and Purdue University
Center for Career Opportunities will hold a Mandarin-Speaking
Internship/Career Fair at Purdue's West Lafayette campus Tuesday,
March 11. With nearly 4,300 Mandarin-speaking students at one of the
nation's most prestigious universities, this event features some of the
brightest young minds who are looking to work for organizations like
yours. Best of all, this event is free.All attendees will receive exhibit
space, covered table, brunch, snacks and one parking pass for the event.
