In 15 years of running the footy tipping competition we
have never had an outright Aussie winner; now we have
two. There was Troon Jack as joint winner and Sean Reid
although born in Australia is the son of two staunch Irish
parents who under no circumstances would let him fall into
the a 100% Aussie category. Jessie Fullerton & Danny
Cash have broken the run and are joint winners of the 2014
competition. In the lead up to the final 3 blind rounds all
the confidence was behind Jessie and the only real dangers
seemed to be the two millionaires, Mr. T.- Bobby J, her
brother Matt, Sean Gallagher, Graeme Elliot, Ritchie D.
& Craig Bult. Out of nowhere came Danny Cash & James
Gallagher but still they were not considered contenders; it
was regarded only as a decent run of luck. Danny & James
had consistency on their side but they still would need to
take a few chances with the outsiders in the blind rounds to
be in with a shout for prize money.
I hope I am not blowing my Flue germs on the cake.
Joyce celebrates her birthday in style.
Bobby Johnston a man with over 80 years experience of
footy tippy played the percentages game and became up
stuck. There was Mr. Graeme Elliot a man renowned for
regularly picking 25/1 shots on the horse racing lost his way
in the pursuit of the long shots, Craig Bult who is equally
as adept at picking a good winner in the TAB got a bit lazy,
Ritchie D. steady Sean Gallagher and Matt Fullerton
took their eye off the ball. All of the above mentioned
succumbed to stage fright and were left to console each
other on the what and what if’s of the final rounds.
James Gallagher who had a side bet with his brother
Sean was quietly moving up the ladder while Sean was
looking continually vulnerable. James momentum almost
got him over the line with a brave pick of Richmond in the
last round to beat Sydney. Mr. T. again showed consistency
throughout the footy season but just not enough to ever lead

the way. He was steady and ended third on the ladder;
not a bad result at all. James Gallagher with his late rush
ended in fourth position but beating his brother Sean was
how James measured his success. As for the other siblings
Jess & Matt Fullerton they were happy to share a few quid
with each other from the winning pot (Matt won the $1500
at last year’s 15th Birthday giveaway).
What can you say about the two winners? Jess well done
for putting in a magnificent effort throughout the year
and Mr. Danny Cash your never say die attitude is
reflective of your personality.
The prize money as follows: Danny cash and Jess Fulton
on 142, each received $855 Ray Timms came in 3rd
on 141 he gets $190 and James Gallagher on 140 was
fourth and he received the sum of $140 - a very close
competition indeed in 2014
It all finished with lots of congratulations for Jessie &
Danny; free pots of beer and finger food for all that
participated in the competition.
Thank you all for being part of this competition and
don’t forget to join us for the Final on Saturday the 27th

As you read this newsletter the competition will be up and running; it is time to begin dreaming about
a trip for two to Liverpool in 2015. We have with our partners Coopers come up with something special
and it only applies to customers of the Quiet Man Irish Pub. They say there is no such thing as a free
lunch and to be skeptical of something for free. This certainly does not apply in this case it is all free
and if you’re a Carlsberg lover then all the better.
From the first week in September we will be offering for the full period of the English Premier
Division season 2014- 2015 (September 2014 – May 2015) pints of Carlsberg at only $8.50.
When you purchase a pint of Carlsberg during this period you will fill in an entry form and every
Sunday at 7pm a name will be drawn from the entry box. If you are present you get to spin the wheel
to win prizes ranging from pints of Carlsberg, slabs of Carlsberg, QM dinner voucher, mystery
prize, merchandise etc. If you are not present your name will be included on the winning board and
another name is drawn (until one of the entrees is in the pub) and they will spin the wheel to win a prize
only. The names on the board will be entered into the final draw on the 24th of May 2015 for 2
tickets to a Liverpool game in Anfield, Liverpool, England, and this includes flights. This game
will be in September 2015, so, if you win you will have a few months to get your house in order.
Your name can only be included in the draw once but you could be lucky enough to spin the wheel
every week and win a prize. The winner will need to be present on the night of the major prize draw;
tickets are non transferable and non negotiable. Please read the posters if you cannot believe how good
this competition actually is.
Sorry to repeat ourselves but now that the competition is official it is important you know the rules.
Carnival
It is spring carnival time again and the wheels are now in motion to offer you the usual
great time. This is party time in Melbourne; so, let me remind you breakfast will be
available in the restaurant from 9.00a.m. on the main racing days. Getting the bit of
breakfast into the stomach is so important as it enables you to have a bit of a campaign
when you drink so much lemonade. We again this year will provide the courtesy bus
for customers up to the races. On Melbourne Cup day allow about 45 minutes from
requesting a lift to the time you want to leave. The bus is only an 11 seater and it is
always in great demand, sometimes large groups cannot be taken in one hit. The bus
makes its first trip to Flemington around 9.45 am and depending on the traffic we will
try to get you as close as possible to an entry gate.
This all sounds great so all you have to do is come along and enjoy yourself. It may be
a good idea to put in for a few days holiday leave from your job; this does not apply to
Quiet Man staff as we want you to enjoy being in the heart of the festival. Please book
the restaurant for breakfast as soon as you know your numbers; we really don’t want
our locals to be disappointed as it is a first booked first served arrangement.

He promises he will sing a song from
each of the two counties in the final.
We will be having a few events in

We LOVE
to Dance!!
“Melbourne Comhaltas kicked
off their set dance weekend
at The Quiet Man on Friday
15th Aug with a great crowd of
dancers from Sydney, Canberra,
Adelaide and Melbourne. We
had the mighty Mary Clancy
and her daughter Mary Kate out
from Milltown Malbay, Co. Clare
to put us through the dances at
the workshops. Mary teaches
set dancing every year at the
Willie Clancy Week of music
and dance in her native Clare
and she brought her love and
expertise of set dancing to our
weekend. Everyone that was
there on Friday night loved the
atmosphere/friendliness at the
Quiet Man and we would like to
repeat it all again next year. We
want to thank all at the Quiet
Man for making this event a
great success. The staff are a
wonderful help every Monday
night organising the room for
our set dancing classes. Feel
free to join us any Monday
evening at 8pm, all levels
welcome”. Marie Brouder

A little reminder to those of you that are in the process of finishing or close to becoming 100 pint club
members; you are slowly running out of time to become part of this exclusive club. As mentioned in
previous newsletter there will be a celebratory evening of oysters & Guinness plus the presentation
of polo tops. We normally have the presentation on the Monday before Melbourne Cup but this year
it will be held on the Sunday 2nd of November at 6pm to 7pm in the front bar. To actually
become a member you will need to have completed your 100pints of Guinness by close of business
on Friday the 31st of October. . It would be great if as many members as possible could join us on the
presentation night for the annual photograph You have all the hard work completed to become part of
this prestigious club, so, be there to reap the rewards, knock back the free Guinness. It is a Sunday
so no excuses for nonattendance but please check with one of our managers for exact times or check
our notice boards. We are running with this information a bit early so things may change slightly.

We had no truth and lies last month
due to lack of space and it caused a bit
of a stir so its back with a vengeance.
This month’s volunteer is Paddy
Kennedy, who like his best mate Dave
Fanning hails from County Tipperary,
Dave told Paddy he was not included
in the newsletter because he was too
boring and it really had him stirred
up. Well here is your chance to pick
his two lies and win that $50 voucher.
It is as good as money as you can use
it in the restaurant, the front bar or the
bottle shop. Best of luck to all that
take the time to enter.

AS THE WINTER DAYS SLOWLY BECOME WARMER
AND LONGER, the finishing post has now become
visible as there is only 6 weeks remaining in the season.
The colder nights at training have not swayed numbers
though as the intensity and competition for places for
both teams has never been tighter.
The seniors; led by Xavier Sloan continue to show the way
on top of the table; 5 points clear of nearest challengers
Brunswick-based Old Hill Wanderers with a far superior
goal difference.
Losses to an ever improving Satellite City (Melton) and
Hume Valley (a controversial 2-1 loss) have slowed our
charge however an impeccable first half of the season
has put us in good stead and as we head towards the
finish line our fate is still completely in our own hands.
Jay Phelan’s reserves sit 4th in what is shaping to be one
of the most competitive finishes to the league in a long
time. The top four (with Campbellfield Lions leading the
way on 32 points) are only separated by 4 points so
there is still plenty to play for as we have games against
the teams around us before the season ends.
The reserves are still in the Vicsoccer Invitational cup as
they outclassed fellow Vicsoccer Premier Reserves team St
George Knights 2-1 thanks to goals from the now first team
pairing Brad Dry and Pedro Oseghale. We have drawn
morning league outfit Albert Park Spiders to be played
at Eastern Lions FC home ground Gardiners Reserve,
Burwood on the 7th of September 2014...one win away
from the reserves first ever cup final appearance!
The players who are doing the badge proud over the
last month have been: - Pedro Oseghale: The classy
forward made the transition from scoring hat-tricks for the
reserves to scoring hat-tricks with the seniors; he scored 3
goals against Northern Tigers.
Jamie Carolan: Plays roles for both reserves and
seniors week in week out without complaining and is
starting to reap the rewards by scoring some great goals
for the first team.
Paul Beavis: In John Joyce’s absence took over as
set piece specialist...and he did far more than deputize
setting up countless amounts of chances and goals with
his purposeful delivery from all angles
Mark Prior: Since joining the club last month he
has played in many positions for both seniors and
QuietManNews
The
reserves culminating in his impressive sweeper-keeper
performance against Northern Tigers!
Vinnie Ly: In his first year of outdoor football he is
setting an example of how to train and follow coaches
instructions...he is a different player since joining the club
and we’re all looking forward to watching him progress
more through the reserves and beyond!
TROJAN ATHLETIC FC held our second fundraiser
of the year with the raffle night held at The
Quiet Man. The night raised over $1300 for the
club and there was a great turn out by players
and fans alike. Thanks to all who donated
prizes or bought raffle tickets and I hope you
were in luck on the night!
Trojan Athletic FC is a club that welcomes all. If you
would like to get involved either as a player, a volunteer,
sponsor or supporter we would love you to come down
and meet us at training on a Thursday night at JJ Holland
Reserve or at one of our home matches at Ross Straw
Field. We can be contactable on the details below.
As the season slowly but surely draws to an end, the
committees’ attention now turns towards next year and
beyond. Stay tuned for a lot of exciting announcements
over the next couple of weeks!
Thanks for reading, hopefully there will be another flag
above the bar of our home pub for you to admire very shortly!

Hello all,
How are you all doing?. The bottle
shop is flat out at the moment and
I am very happy with that side of
things. Have you noticed when I
started including my bottle shop
super prices I was on the front page
of the newsletter and now I am on
page 3; I am not sure if I should
be worried. I was able to keep the
Carlsberg at $40 a slab again
this month because we are building
an excellent relationship with
Coopers. Australia. This price is to
link in with the amazing trip you
could win to see Liverpool playing
in Anfield, England courtesy of
Coopers (see front bar posters). On
the wine front I have a few nice
drops at low prices so check them
out. Michael tells me there will be
no newsletter in October so please
keep in mind we will have
lots of specials for the spring
carnival. We will open early,
around 9am on the main
days in case you fancy a few
drinks & a BBQ at home. As
usual we are open until 1am
every morning so you need
never be stuck. Here are my
upcoming specials :
De Bortoli Barossa shiraz for
a cheap $13.00 - Dreaming
Dog classic red only $9.98
& Kiss chasey classic white
again at only $9.98. The
Orilloff vodka 700ml is still
only $24.98 and selling well at
that low price but we did order in a
lot of cases and as mentioned the
Carlsberg slabs are still only
$40.00. Be good until we talk
