March 17, 2014
Dear Parents,
I hope that everyone had a wonderful, relaxing Spring Break. It’s time to pick up where we left off and take all necessary measures to prepare for
STAAR. The first administration will be here very quickly, and there is still work to be done. Fourth grade students will take the STAAR Writing
Assessment on April 1st and 2nd. The fifth grade students will take STAAR Math on April 1st and STAAR Reading on April 2nd. Please make sure
your fourth and/or fifth grade students are at school and on time on those very important days.
Please remember that spring pictures will take place tomorrow, March 18. Students will take an individual picture, and classes will take a group
picture. If you wish to order a group picture, please remember that they money is due in advance or the day of the pictures.
The La Porte Education Foundation Celebration will be held Thursday, March 20, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at La Porte High School. Please remember
to sign in to represent La Porte Elementary. Students will have a lot of work on display, and there are many other things to see and do. Of course,
you don’t want to miss seeing our own Spirit Team perform! La Porte Elementary has had the highest attendance rate for the past several years, and
we want this trend to continue for 2014. We hope to see you there!
On Friday of this week, our kindergarten students will take a field trip to the Houston Livestock Show. We know they are going to have a great time
and look forward to hearing their stories upon their return.
Every student will be academically proficient or exemplary in the core areas of reading, writing, and
math, without exception and without excuse. This responsibility is OURS. The time is NOW.
Students are assigned to read at least 20 minutes each night. Our Kindergarten-2nd grade students are to also work on sight words. Please look in
your child’s folder for these words. All students need to work on math facts, either addition or multiplication, depending on the grade level.
Together, we will work to achieve our campus goal and prepare all Leopards to be College Bound! With our students’ efforts at school and your help at
home, our community will “SPOT Our Excellence” in each and every student at LPE!

CAMPUS NEWS
La Porte Education Foundation - Please join us for the Education Celebration this Thursday, March 20 at La Porte High School from 5:00
– 7:00 p.m. We want to win the attendance award again! Please help us in doing this by coming on Thursday! Students’ work will be displayed at the
LPE booth. Our Spirit Team will be performing at 6:25 p.m. on the stage. We look forward to seeing you there!
Box Tops for Education – Our campus continues to participate in the Box Tops for Education Program. Box Tops are valuable because the
organization gives money back to schools! These Box Tops are on lots of products that we buy at the grocery store each week. Please cut out
the Box Tops and send them to school as your family collects them. Ms. Fontenot organizes this effort for our campus.
Here and On Time - It is crucial that our Leopards start each day in a successful way – Here and On Time. All students must be in the
building before the 7:50 a.m. bell rings. The district tardy guidelines found on the LPISD web page are being enforced. Thank you for your
help with making sure your child arrives on time.
Dismissal Procedures: Parents, please display the LPE car hang tag in your car. Parents without car hang tags will need to pick up their
children in the main office as an additional safety precaution.
CHARACTER ED’S BUZZWORD
“It takes two to speak the truth-one to speak and another to hear” – Henry David Thoreau
Our “Buzz” word for this week is “Sincere”. Saying what you mean and meaning what you say is a good way to describe sincere. When a person is
sincere they really mean what they say and you can trust in what they say as well as in them. Think about a time you may have given a compliment
or said you were sorry and did not really mean it. Our thinking needs to match our words and vice versa in order for other people to always believe
us and know we are sincere. It reminds me of an old saying; if you do not have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all.
At LPE, You Can SPOT Our Excellence each and every day!
Enthusiastically,
Angie Garza-Viator
