Second Announcement
Scope:
The joint conference will cover a wide range of topics related to functional imaging of
nanomaterials by various techniques including Scanning Probe Microscopy (Piezoresponse Force
Microscopy – PFM, Electrochemical Strain Microscopy – ESM, Kelvin Probe Microscopy – KPM),
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Optical Microscopy (Confocal Microscopy – CM, Scanning
Near-Field Optical Microscopy – SNOM, and Raman Microscopy – RM). The Youth Conference will
consist of an extensive tutorial and scientific conference on nanoscale phenomena in
ferroelectrics, ionic conductors, and polar biomaterials.
Topics:
1. Instrumental aspects of PFM, ESM, KPM, SNOM, SEM, CM, RM, and related techniques as
applied to functional nanomaterials
2. Ferroelectrics, piezoelectrics, and ionic conductors on the nanoscale
3. Multiferroic phenomena and magnetoelectric coupling on the nanoscale
4. Disordered ferroelectrics, domains, and mesoscopic effects
5. Ferroelectric data storage and polarization lithography
6. Ferroelectric photovoltaics and tip-enhanced phenomena
7. Interface and domain engineering
8. Biocompatible & organic polar materials on the nanoscale
9. 1D and 2D nanostructured polar materials
10. Theory and modeling

Call for Abstracts:
Deadline for abstract submission is March 1, 2014.
Every participant may submit up to 2 abstracts to the Conference.
Prepare
your
abstract
according
to
the
template
(http://labfer.ins.urfu.ru/pfm2014/documents/pfm-2014_abstract_template.doc). This Microsoft Word document contains all
text styles necessary for abstract preparation. Indicate what kind of presentation you prefer:
oral or poster. Put the section number. Name the file with the
abstract in the following way Surname#.doc (for example,
Shur1.doc).
To submit an abstract you should log in to your profile or register
as a new participant (http://labfer.ins.urfu.ru/pfm-2014/myprofile/registers.html), choose Edit->Upload your profile and
upload the abstract file at the Abstract submission tab.
Call for Papers:
Deadline for paper submission is July 17, 2014.
The conference proceedings will be published in the Special Issue
of Ferroelectrics. Selected papers presented at PFM-2014 will be a
part of the Piezoresponse Force Microscopy Issue of Journal of
Applied Physics.

Russian Visa:
In order to obtain Russian visa all foreign participants need an official invitation.
Deadline for official invitation request is May 20, 2014 for European nationals and March 20,
2014 for nationals of other nationalities.
There is also an option to obtain rapid invitation after this date (tourist visa) via several
Ekaterinburg hotels.
To draw up the official invitation letter for visa we need:
1. Copy of first page of passport (with photo, passport number, dates and the other main
information) as JPG file.
2. Filled form (http://labfer.ins.urfu.ru/pfm-2014/documents/pfm-2014_visa.doc).
Please, send these two files to local organizing committee by e-mail.
Note that your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after intended departure
date from Russia!

Ekaterinburg is easily reachable by airplane. The Koltsovo international airport located within 20
minutes from Ekaterinburg’s downtown serves direct flights from Helsinki, Istanbul, Beijing,
Minsk, Munich, Prague, Rome, Kiev, Dubai, Tel Aviv, and Yerevan as well as national flights from
the most of Russian big cities.

An exhibition of relevant microscopy and test instruments will be held in conjunction with this
