FROM THE AMERICAN LEGION
Greetings from your Commander
Hello to all KND Wayne Post 64
I have a lot to cover so let's get started.
The benefit for our beloved Rita Deweese - A tribute
to her, her MRS foundation, her friends and those that
truly care for and about her! I am so impressed by the
outpouring of love, support, and "genuine" concern
for this lady. The money collected is also a testament
of how we, at KND Wayne Post 64, can pull together
with a common cause and make a true difference in
someone's life. All that participated, donated and
worked to make this benefit the success it was, should
be very proud of each other and yourselves!! It was a
day where differences were set aside and our
strengths were united for the sake of another. It may
not mean much to some of you, but I am very proud
of the effort and the result!
Thank you, once again, for the privilege of serving as
Post 64 Commander!

The benefit for Officer Rod Bradway on April 27th,
we will once again join together to express our
appreciation for this fine, honest hero that unselfishly
paid the ultimate price and without a second thought
gave his life to save someone he didn't even know.
Let's show IMPD that we are behind their efforts
100% plus! Let's show Officer Bradway's family that
we care and are here to support them in their time of
need. I expect each entity of our Post to make a
generous donation as well as our Riders, as they
normally do. We will have many people at our Post
this day. Let's show them why we are the best Post
and make this a very special day for IMPD and
especially the family of this fallen hero.
The benefit begins at 1:00pm and lasts until 7:00pm.
Officer's Election: On May 14th we will vote from
11:00am to 6:00pm for our 2014-2015 Officers. I
wish there were more on the ballot as I believe no
position should go unchallenged, but it is what it is.
Please consider carefully the impact of your personal
decision! That is what it is supposed to be...a
personal decision, instead of listening to the desperate
few that believe they can share their poison and steal
your right to make your own decision. Many of us
were in the military defending that right, many lost
their lives doing the same! It would be a disservice to
them and yourself to be swayed by these pathetic
people!! Please join us on May 14th and share your
voice by voting!
As this may be my last newsletter I want to thank
those that supported me and some of the changes I
made while serving as Commander. I am encouraged
by your enthusiasm and desire to keep KND Wayne
Post 64 running smoothly and without a personal
agenda interfering with our fight against autocracy.
Don't know what it means? Look it up! It is in our
Legionnaire's Preamble!
We have Easter, Mothers’ Day, Memorial Day, The
Legacy Ride, Post Picnic and much more on the
schedule. Let's join together and continue to make all
of these a success!
From the Adjutant
Well, all, this may be the last newsletter that I
publish. First of all, I want to thank all of our
members – Legion, Auxiliary, SAL, and Riders, for
all your support and assistance in everything that the
Legion does. Without members like you, our Post
wouldn’t be as awesome as it is! Thank you!!!!
If you have paid your dues and have not received your
Legion membership card for 2014, please contact me
at [email protected] or call me at 317-6987669.
We still need 40 members to accomplish our goal of
977 members. If you know anyone who is interested
in becoming a member, please ask them and let them
know what Post 64 is all about.
Please remember to support all of our troops,
wherever they may be.
Carla Diggs
From the 1st Vice Commander:
I would like to start by saying to the Ladies Aux. for
putting on a great membership breakfast. It was a big
success and to all that came to help THANK YOU! I
would like to personally thank Lillian for hosting it. I
know this year has been a rough one and I haven't
always been here but I would like to say thank you all
that have helped from the bottom of my heart and
good luck to all that are running for a position.
Kenny Hughes
.
From the 2nd Vice Commander
It has been a great year for which I thank you. We
will have bands thru May 23/24 and then be off for
the summer. We will see you in October.
Kent Patton
From the Chaplain
Let us all work very hard to keep our veterans safe
and show all of them that we will do anything to
make all veterans as safe as we can.
For God and Country, Tom Lahey

From the Historian:
After a long winter, I think we are all ready for a good
spring thaw.
Since the last newsletter, KND Wayne Post 64 has
had a presence on Facebook. To date we have only
142 friends. Friending Knd Wayne Post SixtyFour is the best way to keep informed about the
happenings at the Post and also a way to get
information out quickly. I respond to those requests
as quickly as possible. I also post pictures of events
at the post for all to see.
Finally, I'm trying to get a web page started about the
Post. If you have any ideas about what to include, let
me know when you see me at the Legion.

Our meeting will start at 7:00. Be ready to nominate
and vote.
I am very proud of our Unit members for all the help
they have been in helping with our Bereavement
Luncheons held this year. It is always an honor to
serve the families who have lost a love one. If you
are interested in volunteering, please contact Chaplain
Rita DeWeese, myself at the above contact
information, any Unit Officer or leave a note at the
post.
Our 1st Vice President, Kim Swinney, receive
Certificates for 55% and 75% Membership turn in
from Department, which means she has reached both
those goals within certain dates. Department did not
have 80% turn in Certificates ready. As of this date,
Kim is almost at 95%. Please give an application to
any female from the age of 1 day old to 101, and Kim
will do the rest.
Judy Lahey's juniors will be helping Pam Hughes and
the Easter Bunny with the Easter Egg Hunt on April
19th. They will all be wearing their "Bunny Ears"
and helping the little kids hunt for eggs. The Juniors
are also finishing up Poppy entries for the 11th
District Memorial Luncheon Meeting, which will be
held on May 14th at Leo F. Welsh Unit #495, staring
at 11:15AM. I am glad the District will be judging
the entries, because the juniors have done an
outstanding job on their hats, cans and corsages. I
wonder what Judy has planned for Mothers’ Day?

FROM THE AUXILIARY
Spring has finally arrived. The flowers are starting to
bloom and the grass is getting greener. You can
always tell its "springtime", because everyone is
wondering who our 2014-15 Auxiliary Officers will
be. The Slate has been taken down after our Unit
meeting. Slated so far: Lillian Keen, Unit President;
Kim Swinney, 1st Vice President, April Sparks,
Secretary, Rita DeWeese, Chaplain, and Rhonda
Thompson. The following offices are opened: 2nd
Vice President, Treasurer and Historian. If you are
interested or have questions regarding any and all
offices, please feel free to contact me at (home) 2477492 - (cell) 430-1484 or email me at
[email protected]. At our May 14th meeting, we
will have nominations from the floor
for ALL offices. Think about it and become an
officer in the largest worldwide female organization.
Lisa Bevins and Connie Helms, National Security
Chairmen, have sent approximately $80,000.00 worth
of coupons to various commissaries overseas. They
would like to send more coupons, but they need your
help with either cutting the adds out of newspapers or
give them your adds. Just leave them at the post.
Hoosier Girls' State Chairmen, Katie Cooper is proud
to announce that our Unit is sending eight (8) High
School Girls to HGS for a week of government
training in June. These young women are our
future.
Please have a pleasant, joyful, safe and Happy Easter.
Don't eat too may eggs nor chocolate Easter Bunnies.
It does funny things to all of us.
Don't forget to fly your flag every day, but especially
on the Holidays. Always remember and pray for our
Veterans, whether they are walking amongst us or
have gone their final resting place. God Bless
America and all of our Military personnel.

From the 2nd Vice President
I would like to say how proud I am to be a member of
our 64 Auxiliary Unit, as evidenced by the way our
unit comes together as we do in need. I also want to
say thank you to all my sisters. I myself have had
endless help when needed. And Lilian, thank you,
Madam President for leading us. The Easter Egg Hunt
was a super hit with the kids. I think that the helpers
had fun too. Good luck to those who are running.
And again, thank you all very much.

Al Rees, Gary Stein, and I attended the Accident
Scene Management class. I recommend all motor
cycle riders and passenger attend this class. It is
about six hours long, and is an intense, hands on
training, informative class. The class instructors are
EMTs. In our class we also had a RN and a retired
police officer (first responder). I suggest you go to
www.accidentscene.org to find the location and time
of the next available class. It is well worth the $75.00
and time to attend. It may save your life or the life of
the person you ride with.
Spring time is here at last. Saddle up and ride, after
you check tires, fluids, lights, do a nut and bolt check
with your torque wrench. Do you have a first aid kit
on your bike? Rain gear? Extra eye protection?
Riding boots in good shape? Take the time to check
all riding gear - Safety is your first priority.
Check our web site for upcoming rides. You can also
click on related links; go to District 11 ALR web site
and check the calendar of events for District 11 ALR.
Thanks to all the ALR members for supporting Rita`s
benefit and the $1,000.00 donation. The big prize was
- I received a hug from Rita..... That made my day.
Wayne Post has a lot of activities this year and
needs a lot of volunteers. We need more riders to
come forward and be available to help with post
activities. If you would like to volunteer for post
functions, see me or the commander so we can start a
list of riders who want to help.
Monday night kitchen sales are on the rise, from 19
dinners to 40 dinners since January. John Adams is
doing a fine job for the riders preparing meals. Please
stop by the kitchen to say thank you to John.
