1st MDF powder symposium in Markdorf
WAGNER gives valuable insight into the coating of MDF substrates
On November 26th and 27th, 2014, the first MDF powder symposium took place
in the WAGNER powder technology center located in Markdorf. The latest varnish
and material developments were presented, as well as current knowledge and
practical experience in the field of MDF powder coating.
The hands on presentations delivered an insight into the coating of MDF standard
plates in the wood and furniture industry, and provided ideas for the improvement
and further development of units and processes. A broad knowledge range was
highlighted – the complete process beginning with the tree and ending with the
finished work piece. The University of Biel presented powder coating as an ideal
solution for a seamless surface finishing of MDF substrates, offering considerable
process and cost advantages compared to liquid or PVC coating.
Both Alexander Buchmüller, initiator and Business Development & Sales
Manager for MDF at WAGNER, and the participants were satisfied with the
symposium and evening program at the Zeppelin Museum. Prof. Dr. Nils A.
Reinke, from Winterthur Instruments AG, complimented the superior quality of the
technical presentations and the advantageous combination of theory and practical
demonstrations. Susanne Sollner, responsible for innovations at Burgbad AG,
said that the symposium was a helpful platform aiding in the consideration to
invest in the MDF coating technology. The participating varnish manufacturers
IGP Pulvertechnik AG, Sherwin-Williams, Tiger Coatings and Jotun Powder
Coatings all shared positive feedback about the event. The diversified group of
participants provided an ideal opportunity for networking as Torsten Völkel from
IGP Pulvertechnik AG pointed out. Users from the furniture industry, designers,
1/3
object planners, job coaters, varnish applicators, varnish manufacturers,
architects, and consultants were all represented, amongst others.
The practical presentations demonstrated the
advantages of MDF powder coating
