The Championship
The WIL Sport Hyosung Cup is a five round championship for Hyosung 250cc
production motorcycles. Running over the summer of 2014/2015 at Hampton Downs
Raceway it runs in conjunction with the Auckland Motorcycle Club (AMCC) Summer
Series. Hereby referred to as the ‘Hyosung Cup’, championship points are awarded at
every round and the competitor with the highest number of points at the end of the
series will be awarded the WIL SPORT HYOSUNG CUP Trophy. There is a total prize
fund of $10,000. Entries are strictly limited to 35 bikes. Read on for all the details...
The Races
There will be ten Hyosung Cup races in total (two per round) with points awarded for
race positions down to 30th place in each race. Each race day comprises of one practice
session and two races. Race 1 will be a regular static grid start and race 2 a ‘Le Mans’
type start. Qualifying lap times will determine your starting positions for the day.
Cross entries - Hyosung Cup bikes are also eligible to enter the AMCC 250 Pro-Lite’
class where they can get a further two races on the same day, making a total of 4 races
on the day in two separate championships. There is NO EXTRA COST for cross entries.
Note - Points scored in 250 Pro-Lite races do NOT count towards the Hyosung Cup
championship.
The Bikes
Hyosung Cup bikes must be standard production Hyosung GT250/R’s or the new X4
(GD250N/R) (all years/models) which comply with the rules as stated by MNZ and
Hyosung NZ. It is the rider’s responsibility to comply with all the rules.

Scrutineering / Bike checks
Bikes will be scrutineered by MNZ officials at the start of each round and must comply
with all the rules/regulations. It must be safe, presentable and meet all the legal
requirements.
Race officials can select any bike at random throughout the day for inspection. Illegal
and/or improperly prepared bikes can be disqualified from the round and any points
earned on the day will be lost. The competitor also risks elimination from both the
Hyosung Cup and Production championships.
Transponders
Transponders are used to record all lap times electronically and are mandatory. They
are hired at the track on race day and must be fitted securely to your bike. You can
purchase your own transponder from AMCC – contact the club for details.
Riding Gear
Read www.mnz.co.nz Chapter 8 for details. Leathers and back protectors are
mandatory. Riding gear is checked at every meeting so please ensure you comply.

Live timing and video coverage of every race meeting can be view online at

JDAS photography are the official photographers for the Hyosung Cup and will attend
every round and the prize giving ceremonies. JDAS kindly offer Hyosung Cup riders

Race Dates
Race dates will be posted on the AMCC website when known (normally around August
time). Check www.amcc.co.nz for the AMCC summer series race dates. These are the
same race dates for the Hyosung Cup races.
The Pit Facilities
Hyosung New Zealand will provide a covered ‘Pit Village’ for competitors at every round
and will be on hand to provide advice on track conditions and bike setup. There will also
be a small pool of general spare parts which can be purchased on the day. Please do not
rely on us for spare parts, they are limited and will be on a first come first served
basis. Hyosung will also provide an area for the Hyosung Cup sponsors to relax and
enjoy the days racing.
The Prize giving ceremony
There will be a Hyosung Cup rostrum with a prize giving ceremony at the end of each
round. Every rider gets a mention with their best lap time and overall position for the
day. Hyosung Cup sponsors will present trophies to the top 3 riders and cash prize
money to the top 10 riders on the day. All riders are expected to attend the prize
giving. A free BBQ and refreshments will be provided for all cup riders, their mechanic
and our sponsors.
The Prize Money
There is a $10,000 prize fund for the championship. Cash prizes will be awarded for
the first 10 places of each race as shown below with a separate top three cash prize
for the top under 19’s. eg. A under 19 rider who wins outright will earn $200.

At the end of the season, the overall championship winner will be the rider with the
most points. They will be awarded the prestigious WIL Sport Hyosung Cup trophy.
Second and third place in the championship will also receive trophies. The championship
trophy ceremony will be held at Hyosung Motorcycles in Takapuna a few weeks after
the season finale.
Press Releases
A press release will be sent out before the season starts and detailed race reports will
be sent to the NZ Motorcycle press, our sponsors, AMCC and all riders after every
round to give everyone an insight to the days racing and to keep everyone informed on
the championship points standings for all riders.
Pre season Launch
All registered riders will be invited to a Cup launch at Hyosung Motorcycles – 73 Barry
Point Road, Takapuna, Auckland a few weeks before the first round (date tbc). This is
an opportunity to meet fellow riders, meet the sponsors, and pickup their entry pack
which contains Cup merchandise, and a mandatory sponsor sticker kit to apply to their
bike. All riders are expected to attend the Pre Cup launch.
The costs
The WIL Sport Hyosung Cup has a one off registration fee of $250.
Individual race day entry fees are $130 for AMCC members and include qualifying, 2 x
Hyosung Cup races AND 2 x Pro-Lite races. Non AMCC members will pay more for the
entry fee – contact AMCC for more information.
Transponder hire is $34.50 per race day and are supplied by AMCC at the track.
Entry fees should be paid at least 7 days in advance of the meeting. Late entry fee is
an additional $50.
Note – Hyosung Cup and 250 Pro-Lite are two separate championships with different
points scoring systems. Points earned in 250 Pro-Lite’ races count toward the AMCC
250 Pro-Lite championship. Points earned in the Hyosung Cup count toward the Hyosung
Cup championship.

What to do next...
Join AMCC (Auckland MotorCycle Club)
You need to join a race club BEFORE you apply for your MNZ licence. Entrants can join
any club but it’s beneficial to join the Auckland Motorcycle club (AMCC) to support the
club and to take advantage of the special discounted race entry fees. Application forms

Annual membership is $50 for under 20’s and $65 for over 20’s.
Get an MNZ racing licence.
All entrants must have a valid Motorcycling New Zealand (MNZ) racing licence. A Club

Get your race number
Race numbers for the Hyosung Cup are managed by AMCC. Please contact Colleen at
AMCC via email - [email protected] to request a number (not already
allocated).
Register for the Wil Sport Hyosung Cup
Registration form is at the bottom of this document. Entry is only confirmed on
payment of the $250 registration fee. Only 35 places so it’s first come first served.
Registration is free for any riders who are under 19 years old at the start of round 1.
Get a race bike
Hyosung NZ can prepare a brand new race bike for you at a discounted price. Prices for
used race bikes vary dependant on year, condition, specifications etc. For help and

week. Note – Hyosung Cup riders get discount on parts and accessories from Hyosung

Track Days / Coaching
Playdays run regular track days at Hampton downs and Playdays staff can offer
Hyosung Cup riders basic advice on racing lines and riding techniques. Visit their
