Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited
• KREDL was established in 1996 by the Government of
Karnataka.
• Forerunner for Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)
and BEE.
• Nodal Agency for the Non-Conventional Energy Sources and the
implementation of various energy conservation activities.
Objective
To promote renewable energy and to initiate all necessary actions
for the Energy Conservation in the State.
Renewable Purchase Obligation specified by KERC vide
Notification No. S/03/1 dated 16.03.2011
Every Distribution Licensee shall purchase a minimum quantity of electricity from
renewable sources of energy expressed as a percentage of its total procurement during a
year as specified below :

Challenges in developing solar power
projects
• Identification of lands with clear deeds for purchase is a
difficult task.
• Permissions to purchase agriculture lands u/s109 of Karnataka
land reforms Act and Subsequent conversion of land for non
agriculture use is time consuming.
• Other statutory permissions are not happening within time
limits.
• Vetting of PPAs by competent authority is time consuming.
• Developers are facing difficulties in achieving financial
closure.

Budget of Rs 2 Cr. have been released from the Govt. of Karnataka for the Solar Power
project.

Solar Roof Top Scheme 2012-13 in 5 Cities : Total Cost of the project Rs 10 Cr.:
 Subsidy from Govt. of Karnataka – Rs. 2 Cr.
 MNRE contribution – Rs. 3 Cr.
 Beneficiary Contribution – Rs. 5 Cr.

Solar Power Projects 2013 - 2014
•
Budget of Rs 10 Cr. have been released from the Govt. of Karnataka for the Solar
Power projects.
Solar Water Pumping System : Total Cost of the Projects is Rs 8.31 Cr.:
 Subsidy from Govt. of Karnataka – Rs. 4 Cr.
 MNRE contribution – Rs. 2.46 Cr.
 Beneficiary Contribution – Rs. 1.85 Cr.
 Total 131 Beneficiaries : General – 99 Nos., SC – 19 Nos., ST – 13 Nos.
 Installation of 5 HP irrigation water pumps.
 Tender is under process.
• Distribution of Solar Lantern for the beneficiaries living in the remote villages
: Cost of the Project is 4 Cr.:
 Subsidy from Govt. of Karnataka – Rs. 3 Cr.
 Cost of each solar lantern – Rs 1500
 Distribution of Solar Lantern to 26,666 beneficiaries.
 Beneficiaries contribution is Rs 375/-.
 Implementation through ESCOMs.
