Patrons can enter a system generated PIN or district
generated ID on the keypad or they can scan their ID
card on the same convenient device.
NED‐07 Fast Read Numeric Entry Device – Keypad Only (no barcode scanner) The NED‐07 saves money for opera ons not requiring a
barcode scanner, and can be upgraded with a barcode
scanner when needed. The NED‐07 can be set for entry
of system generated PIN numbers or student ID
numbers.
Security Iden fica on Features Once the patron account has been ac vated by entering
a number or scanning a barcode, the POS will display
the student name and picture (if available). A secondary
verifica on of iden ty field, such as birthday, teacher
ini als, student ID, etc. is also displayed. The secondary
iden fica on verifica on field may be changed from
me to me, if needed.
Unique Account Security Features For opera ons not u lizing the picture iden fica on
feature of the point of sale, the FRED‐07 and NED‐07
keypads include some unique built‐in security and
keypad entry error detec on. For each patron account
code a security digit can be assigned automa cally by
the system to create a unique keypad number PIN. The
Fred/Ned keypads verify the security digit on‐the‐fly as
the patron enters his/her PIN and rejects incorrect
entries. Any mismatch causes an account rejec on
accompanied with an audible alarm aler ng the cashier
and patron of an incorrect entry.
The security digit protects the system against the keying
of random or sequen al numbers in order to match an
exis ng account. This reduces the possibility of
accidental access of an account, because two mistakes
in keying the PIN would be required in order to result in
a valid PIN for another account.
