The major plant in Bratislava covers an area of 1,780,058 square meters, with buildings covering 1,292,453 square meters The Martin plant has a total area of 198,000 square meters with buildings on 48,000 square meters. The plant in Košice prepares Volkswagen vehicles for the Russian market. Production The Bratislava plant produces vehicles and gearboxes. In 2013, production reached a total of 426,300 vehicles and 268,000 gearboxes. The current model range includes the Volkswagen Touareg, Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid, Volkswagen up!, Volkswagen e-up!, Audi Q7, ŠKODA Citigo, and SEAT Mii, as well as the body of the Porsche Cayenne. The Martin plant produces components. In 2013, production reached 32,9 million units, including synchronization rings, flanged shafts, drum housings and differential housings. These parts are shipped to a variety of Volkswagen Group plants. Management On January 16, 2012, Albrecht Reimold became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Volkswagen Slovakia, a. s. After qualifying as a tool-maker, he studied production engineering at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences and then also qualified as a welding engineer. He started his career as a trainee with Audi AG in Neckarsulm in 1987. In October 1993, he was appointed head of body production for the new Audi A8, and head of production for the new Audi A2 in 1998. From 2002, Reimold was responsible for production planning for the C and D series models (Audi A6 und Audi A8) and for the R8 sports car as well as for the planning of the Neckarsulm plant. Reimold gained international experience in planning work for international plants such as Changchun in China and Aurangabad in India. Status March 2014 Environment With its "Think Blue. Factory." initiative, the Volkswagen brand has set itself clear targets for the environmentally sustainable positioning of all its plants. By 2018, the aim is to reduce the environmental impact of all Volkswagen plants by 25 percent. Specifically, this means 25 percent lower energy and water consumption, waste volumes and emissions at all plants. History Volkswagen Bratislava s.r.o. was founded in 1991 as a joint venture of Volkswagen AG and Bratislavské automobilové závody, a. s.. The production of the Passat Variant started the same year, followed by the production of the Golf and gearboxes in 1994. In 1998 the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. The company was renamed Volkswagen Slovakia, a. s. in 1999. Since 2000, the Martin plant has produced components for Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and ŠKODA vehicles. The Košice plant started production in 2004. In 2010 started the production of the first serial hybrid car of Volkswagen AG – Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid. The production of Volkswagen up!, ŠKODA Citigo and SEAT Mii started in 2011. In 2012 Volkswagen Slovakia produced already 3,000,000 cars. 2013 the plant in Bratislava launched the group wide first fully electric powered vehicle – the Volkswagen e-up!
