Kent Trinkle, MD and Lynn Banowsky, MD 2014 Abstract & Case Presentation Competition J. Kent Trinkle, MD (19341998), was honored by the Texas Transplantation Society in 1995 by the establishment of the J. Kent Trinkle Award, which is presented annually to a young Texas investigator in the field of transplantation science. Dr. Trinkle was a past president of the society and an honorary member. He was particularly well known for his work in cardiothoracic transplantation, and was head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio from 1972 until 1994. His delightfully witty personality and positive perspective contributed in many ways to the warmth and the collegiality of the society during the time he was actively involved. Dr. Banowsky was the primary driving force behind the founding of the Texas Transplantation Society and served as its first president in 1987. He was firmly committed to the concept that the transplant community throughout the State have a vehicle to address issues facing the transplant community as a group with one, unified voice. fairs Department at the University of Texas . Dr. Banowsky trained at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, completing a residency at the VA Hospital as well as the Charity Hospital in New Orleans. The Texas Transplantation Society invites submissions in two different areas: (1) Abstracts of a scientific nature and (2) Case presentations/reports of a clinical nature. The following guidelines apply for the Abstract Competition: • The abstract competition is open to all current and • provisional members in the society. It is not mandatory for residents/fellows to be a member; however, non-member fellows must, in that event, be sponsored by a regular Texas Transplantation Society member. The abstract may consist of no more than one typewritten, double-spaced page, and should be submitted with your completed application form. The following guidelines apply for Case Reports: • Any Texas Transplantation Society Member may submit a case report. • Individuals not yet belonging to the Texas Transplantation Society must also complete a membership application and submit it with the first year’s dues at the time of submission. General Information: The deadline for submission is Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Please submit the application, along with the case presentation and abstract, via email to [email protected]. Entries must be sent electronically by email as a PDF or word document. The 2014 Program Committee will review all abstracts and case presentations. After reviewing, the Program committee will determine which entries will be presented orally at the TTS meeting in July. If chosen to present at the meeting, applicants must register for the meeting at the appropriate rate for their membership type. All travel arrangements and hotel reservations are the responsibility of the individual, not TTS. The winner(s) will be reimbursed for their travel and hotel as follows: up to $200 for round trip travel (either air fare or mileage based on prevailing IRS rates); and one nights’ stay at the host hotel (room and tax only). Abstracts and case presentations should be no longer than 8 minutes for presentation followed by 2 minutes for discussion. We recommend that the background material be covered in 10 slides only. Computer/PowerPoint presentation will be the only method of presentation permitted. Time limits will be strictly enforced. Presenters should be in the session room 30 minutes before the start time. The moderators will start strictly on time and end on time. At the conclusion of the abstract and case presentations, the attendees and faculty will be asked to vote on the best presentation in their category; winner will be announced before the meeting ends. The winner(s) will be awarded a cash prize of $500 and a travel stipend. Texas Transplantation Society reserves the right to only award one $500 prize if an insufficient number of abstracts is submitted. Applicants can only win once each year, even if entered in more than one category. Previous Presentation of Abstracts: Abstracts will not be considered for presentation if they will be published as an article within 30 days prior to the start of the Texas Transplant Society Meeting or the World Transplant Congress (WTC), or if they have been previously presented at a national meeting not sponsored by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, The Transplantation Society or American Society of Transplantation. Please note that you may submit your abstract both to the Texas Transplantation Society and the WTC under existing rules.
