2014 Abstract & Case Presentation Competition
J. Kent Trinkle, MD (19341998), was honored by the
Texas Transplantation Society
in 1995 by the establishment of
the J. Kent Trinkle Award,
which is presented annually to
a young Texas investigator in
the field of transplantation
science. Dr. Trinkle was a past
president of the society and an honorary
member. He was particularly well known for
his work in cardiothoracic transplantation, and
was head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UT
Health Science Center in San Antonio from
1972 until 1994. His delightfully witty personality and positive perspective contributed in
many ways to the warmth and the collegiality
of the society during the time he was actively
involved.
Dr. Banowsky was the
primary driving force behind the founding of the
Texas Transplantation Society and served as its first
president in 1987. He was
firmly committed to the
concept that the transplant
community throughout the State have a
vehicle to address issues facing the transplant community as a group with one, unified voice.

The Texas Transplantation Society invites submissions
in two different areas:
(1) Abstracts of a scientific nature and
(2) Case presentations/reports of a clinical nature.
The following guidelines apply for the Abstract
Competition:
• The abstract competition is open to all current and
•
provisional members in the society. It is not
mandatory for residents/fellows to be a member;
however, non-member fellows must, in that event, be
sponsored by a regular Texas Transplantation Society
member.
The abstract may consist of no more than one
typewritten, double-spaced page, and should be
submitted with your completed application form.
The following guidelines apply for Case Reports:
• Any Texas Transplantation Society Member may
submit a case report.
• Individuals not yet belonging to the Texas
Transplantation Society must also complete a
membership application and submit it with the
first year’s dues at the time of submission.
General Information:
The deadline for submission is Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
Please submit the application, along with the case presentation and abstract, via email to
[email protected]. Entries must be sent electronically by email as a PDF or word document.
The 2014 Program Committee will review all abstracts and case presentations. After reviewing, the
Program committee will determine which entries will be presented orally at the TTS meeting in July. If
chosen to present at the meeting, applicants must register for the meeting at the appropriate rate for their
membership type.
All travel arrangements and hotel reservations are the responsibility of the individual, not TTS. The winner(s)
will be reimbursed for their travel and hotel as follows: up to $200 for round trip travel (either air fare or mileage based on prevailing IRS rates); and one nights’ stay at the host hotel (room and tax only).
Abstracts and case presentations should be no longer than 8 minutes for presentation followed by 2
minutes for discussion. We recommend that the background material be covered in 10 slides only.
Computer/PowerPoint presentation will be the only method of presentation permitted. Time limits will
be strictly enforced. Presenters should be in the session room 30 minutes before the start time. The
moderators will start strictly on time and end on time.
At the conclusion of the abstract and case presentations, the attendees and faculty will be asked to
vote on the best presentation in their category; winner will be announced before the meeting ends.
The winner(s) will be awarded a cash prize of $500 and a travel stipend.
Texas Transplantation Society reserves the right to only award one $500 prize if an insufficient number
of abstracts is submitted.
Applicants can only win once each year, even if entered in more than one category.
Previous Presentation of Abstracts: Abstracts will not be considered for presentation if they will be
published as an article within 30 days prior to the start of the Texas Transplant Society Meeting or the
World Transplant Congress (WTC), or if they have been previously presented at a national
meeting not sponsored by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, The Transplantation Society or
American Society of Transplantation. Please note that you may submit your abstract both to the
Texas Transplantation Society and the WTC under existing rules.
