POWERtalk International
...the ultimate communication organization
THE RIGHT CHOICE
#115 – Sept 2014
Issue #116 Nov 2014
Hello all,
One of the many books I am reading is called the Power of Focus and I found this quote by Viktor
E. Frankl which captured my attention – “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are
challenged to change ourselves”.
This quote reflects how your International Board members feel since taking office in August of
2013. We have faced many challenges since then but used them as rungs on a ladder, staying
focused and steadily climbing up. Some of the rungs have been a little slippery and there are rungs
that need more attention than others, but our goal of reaching the top never waivers.
The International Board held their second in-person board meeting at IMS, Boulder City, Nevada
from October 22-26, 2014. We used our time wisely including meeting in the evening to be sure
we covered all topics on our agenda. There were some very thought provoking issues that needed
timely discussion with not all members agreeing with the decisions, but when the vote was taken,
the majority ruled. Board members reviewed reports and asked for input on issues from the
Regions that needed board attention.
As with any organization, membership and recruitment are priority topics and we spent a
substantial amount of time discussing them. One of the region newsletters published an article on
membership and featured a Membership Tree. You are encouraged to read the Region
newsletters that are featured on our website this month and find out which region submitted the
tree. Perhaps you can use it in your newsletter using different thoughts for the

branches. Be sure to get permission if you decide to use it.
President’s Message
We are now 4 months into the second half of our two year term and while there
are new members on your teams, or perhaps you are continuing, one thing we
all have in common is our desire to have a repertoire of leadership practices and
skills to share with each other. We all want positive results in our clubs, councils
and regions.
Remember the challenge that was started which asked the question, “Why am I
renewing my membership in POWERtalk?” What about personal pride? Please
continue to send me your updates as they will be used to continuously confirm
you have made “The Right Choice.”

Request for Nominees for the
ITC International Board 2015-2017
To All Clubs:
The biennial Convention 2015 is drawing near and the time has come for the clubs to
nominate qualified members to lead us during the 2015-2017 term. ITC Bylaws allow for
a club in good standing to nominate a member or a member-at-large.

Division Vice-Presidents. Individual Officer duties are defined in the ITC Bylaws in Article 8,
Elected Officers and Article 12, ITC Board.
Any member agreeing to be nominated should write a 150-word, or less, candidate's
message. This message should address “How we can use social media to our best
advantage to promote ITC and POWERtalk International?” You should write your
message as though you are speaking directly to the members.
The candidates’ messages will appear in the Nomination Booklet, along with the biographical
information and photographs of the candidates.
Nominating Clubs should send:
 One (1) copy of the completed Nomination and Consent to Serve on the International
Board form which includes permission to place information + photograph on the
International Website and in From the Boardroom

 One (1) photograph of the nominee (black and white or colour), no smaller than 4” x 6”
(100 mm x 150 mm). Only high-resolution electronic photographs are acceptable,
preferably in .jpg format (72dpi).
The Nominating and Election Committee must receive the nomination no later than 10
February 2015. Nominations may be sent by any available means (see ITC Bylaws, Article

HANDS AROUND THE WORLD CHAIN
By Doris Ginther, Chairman
GOOD NEWS for those who have trouble down loading pdf files. The HAWC request forms
are now also on the website in a WORD document. You may now choose either form – just
make sure you choose one if you are a club unable to send a delegate to convention or a
member who would like to participate as a delegate; but your club already has a delegate or
you are a member at large.
We have already received several requests for delegates to represent various clubs. We now
need the delegates to represent these clubs at convention 2015. It isn’t too early to put in your
request.
If you are a club unable to send your own delegate but know of other members in your area
who would like to represent your club, put their name and contact information in the box asking
for “Any particular wishes”. Likewise the member wishing to be their delegate should fill in the
form and state the club they wish to represent.
Send your forms to HAWC Chairman, Doris Ginther at [email protected]

Just one click away…
Are you one of those POWERtalk members who already
have a personal Facebook account? Have you “liked” our
POWERtalk international page yet? If not, the Social Media
Committee encourages you to join us.
You see, Facebook is a great inexpensive marketing tool
that we need to use to our advantage. But the thing is that it is not enough for ITC’s
Social Media Committee to post pictures, quotes, and questions…we really need you to
step in and help us.
You might ask, “Why do we need you?” Facebook is a great marketing tool and almost
everyone who thinks about marketing knows that. Therefore, every single day, more
and more accounts and pages are established. Some of the benefits to our POWERtalk
International training programs are that by having a Facebook page, we are increasing
our exposure to potential members
6|Page – November 2014
Social Media Committee (cont’d)
With all those pages and all those posts, Facebook is now controlling what you see in
your newsfeed. What you see are posts and comments on pages you frequently like or
comment on. Probably you also see quite a bit of paid advertisements. That is
something a nonprofit organization like ours isn’t able to have at this time. Purchasing
advertisements is costly. For every post we put on our page, between 15% and 43% of
our fans see our posts.
You can help with a few easy steps; (1) like us, (2) make a comment, and (3) share
posts on the page with your friends. If you like our posts it increases the chance that
you see most of our posts, become one of those 15% to 43 %. If you comment,
chances are that your friends see what you are commenting on (= increased
awareness), and if you share, your friends might see what you are sharing, and were it
comes from (= also increases awareness).
During the past several weeks, members and fans of our page really have increased
their activity on our page and for that the committee thanks you; it’s just wonderful. We
hope you will continue to send pictures and tag members in those pictures, send
messages, posts, like and share. Together, with just one click or one word, we can
raise awareness about POWERtalk on Facebook. It’s very easy to post something on
our page. Just come on over; you will find us here:
http://www.facebook.com/POWERtalkInternational . Write something on our wall.
If you want to chat with other POWERtalk members, there is a group on Facebook
where members tell, ask, and encourage each other. If you are a POWERtalk member,
please join—the group is here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/POWERtalkChat/
What is the difference?
POWERtalk page = our marketing tool to raise awareness on the organization.
POWERtalk chat room = Where members can become more personal and talk to each
other, ask for advice, and get to know each other. Brings members together.
We love to see you on our POWERtalk International page.
