Messe Essen Will Display One-Offs from Pioneering to Totally Wicked
From November 28 (Preview Day) to December 7, the Essen Motor Show
2014 will present a number of weird vehicles beyond the series. Around 20
unique studies and concept cars from renowned designers and manufacturers
will sparkle in the Automobile Design special show. The companies
represented in situ with vehicles will include Citroën, Italdesign Giugiaro,
Rinspeed, Sbarro and Zenvo. Moreover, odd vehicles in custom-built designs
such as a Ford T with two engines and over 1,000 bhp will await the visitors.
Or an almost forgotten sports car which will achieve new eminence in Essen.
One main focal point in the Automobile Design special show in Halls 3, 4 and
11 will be tomorrow's mobility. For example, Rinspeed will display a fully
electric study for autonomous driving. The "XchangeE" touring saloon is
equipped with newly designed seating which is reminiscent of the relaxation
seats in the Business Class of large airlines. In contrast, the hybrid nippy little
city car called Citroën Révolte superficially follows the style of the legendary
2CV and has a plug-in hybrid drive. The arrangement of the seats is unusual: In
addition to the driver's seat, a kind of curved sofa in the rear offers space for
two fellow travellers.
The friends of odd vehicles will also have a ball in Essen. "One night, I dreamt
of the Ford T," recounts the New Zealander Gordon Tronson. It will be
possible to admire the result at the Essen Motor Show: a roadster with
fibreglass bodywork and two 4.6-litre V8 Ford engines made of aluminium
with four superchargers and over 1,000 bhp. In addition, Dean Rodz will
display his Blue Mamba: a custom car on the basis of the VW Karmann Ghia.
Although its era has long since passed, it will achieve new eminence in Essen.
Rodz provided the Ghia with a new Viper engine supplying an impressive
power of 650 bhp.
