Flavius not too shabby... DHET has released a report on the National Monitoring of Enrolment processes 2013. Flavius Mareka (Kroonstad Campus) was monitored and scored a total of 82% - which puts the College under the top 10 best performing Colleges in the country. Well done to Kroonstad Campus as well as the Student Registration team. Positive feedback was furthermore received from various parents and students during the 2014 registrations at Sasolburg campus. They expressed satisfaction on how registrations were managed and indicated that staff at the various points was well informed and helpful. Well done guys—good for you! It seems as if Flavius is not too shabby after all... New staff p 2 What’s Up with migration? The migration process is still ongoing. DHET will inform staff on the migration process as soon as all the outstanding matters have been resolved. Staff paid via the COLTECH payroll system has been informed regarding the implementation of benefits as applicable in the public sector from 1 April 2014. The 37% in lieu of benefits will then be discontinued for staff with contracts of longer than six months. This will be applicable for educators offering formal programmes as well as support staff at the College. Meetings will be held closer to implementation date with affected staff. Welcome to the Flavius Fraternity Mr Amos Amadi was appointed as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at Mphohadi Campus from 1 January 2014. He is from Zimbabwe and has a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He is also a qualified artisan. He regards himself as a life-long learner who is interested in furthering his studies with the aim to achieve his PhD. Bright minds at Flavius Four lecturers at Flavius Mareka completed their studies in the Education field during 2013. They performed exceptionally well. Ms Norma Sekgobela , lecturer at the Engineering Campus completed her PGCE in Senior and Further Education and Training with 5 distinctions! She also studied at NWU. Ms Gift Ngobeni is another lecturer from the Engineering Campus that completed her studies in PGCE (Senior and Further Education and Training at NWU. She obtained 5 distinctions. Mr Jansen van Vuren Mr Riaan Jansen van Vuren from Kroonstad Campus completed his PGCE in Senior and Further E&T at NWU. He obtained 6 distinctions! Carisa van Schalkwyk—daughter of Lianie van Schalkwyk—was awarded SA colours for Air Rifles 0/20. Ms Gift Ngobeni Another bright mind from Engineering Campus is Mr Simon Matsie. He completed his Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education from VUT with 2 distinctions. WOW! Mr Simon Matsie Wedding bells are a- tolling at Flavius Mareka Ds and Ms Pienaar enjoyed their special day on 30 November 2013. Ms Pienaar is Academic Head at Sasolburg Business Studies Campus. Mr Alpheus Lekote got married to Me Onkemetse Moreti on 23 November 2013. He is a lecturer at Engineering Campus. “The apple does not fall too far from the tree” Not only do we have bright staff at Flavius—their offspring is also strutting their stuff. Mr Edwin Ntjabane’s son has passed grade 12 with one distinction., whilst Tracy Pretorius’ son has also passed his grade 12. IIN MEMORIAM A number of staff members lost loved ones during these past few weeks. The daughter of Mr Riaan Jansen van Vuren obtained four distinctions in her grade 12 exam—a chip of the old block it seems. The mother of Mr Joel Makoli has passed away during the December holidays. Janet du Preez—daughter of Petra Breytenbach—was awarded an Honours degree in Industrial Psychology and a B. Psig degree. Mr Mahlomola Khunyeli has lost his brother. May their souls rest in peace. Lehlohonolo Bennet Kumalo— son of Menge Kumalo. He obtained three distinctions in his exam in a Commercial course. Lerize—the daughter of Ms Johanette Pienaar—obtained five distinctions during the 2013 grade 12 examinations. Mallane Gryffenberg is the daughter of Gertruida Gryffenberg. She obtained a Medicinae Baccalaureus and Chirurgiae Baccalaureus degree from UFS in 2013. What the camera picked up... Proud godmother -Sonet Cilliers and little Liané. Neo Tau is the proud mum. Little Nathan Uys was born on 23 December 2013 and according to Grand-Pa André Uys the laaitie weighed in at 3.19 kg! Oarabile Tau Oupa André and his laaitie
