Powerpoints February 2014 Update 2013/14 Open Water Season What a great season Powerpoints have had this OWS (not yet over - Cerberus on February 22). Our Open water season has been nothing short of brilliant! Powerpoints’ Open Water Champs Tim Boness: Bellarine Peninsula Big Fish. Won all races he entered (5 wins) - Hope the CATS can follow his impressive lead and work rate this season. The unstoppable Helen Whitford: Often swims both the distance and category in the GVSS races. Has won all her races and placed first or second in distance events on the same day. Outside the GVSS also racked up wins at P2P and Portsea. Thomo: Super champ who has won all his GVSS events. Surely he must get bored waiting for all his competitors to finish! Lisandra De Carvelho: In excellent form for her Rottnest campaign. Our pocket rocket has won all the GVSS distance events and has backed up for her category swims on the same day (coming in first or second). Who races 5km and then 1.2km seriously? Lisandra is in top form and we are all wishing her all the best for Rottnest. Trevor Armstrong: One of Powerpoints seasoned campaigners, who goes head to head with Marlins’ Gerry Tucker most races. Trevor is having a great season. Powerpoints move in leaps and bounds We also have some really great stories of members who have improved in leaps and bounds from the 2012-13 OWS. Abi Acane: The girl with the Million Dollar smile has halved the field this year. While she came in the back of her category at Point Lonsdale in 2012/13, this year she was well in the top thirty and in the top twenty at Rock2Ramp. Marijeke Alderson is the Story of the season! In her 22nd P2P swim Marijeke swum her fastest time and placed 2nd, her first podium place in 22 years of swimming P2P proving you should never give up! Marijeke has also had podium action at other swims over the season and is now in training for Nationals and World Champs. Well done you big star. Yvonne Egan-Davidson: Took on Endroman's words of advice (as we all did) and sprinted out of the water at P2P like a bat out of hell. Yvonne passed loads of competitors with her long legs and determination and had also run the Mountain to Surf the day before. Carol Spencer Gardiner and Trevor Skinner: Powerpoints glamour couple: Both well in the top five over the season with podium action. Jess Cutting: Getting secret training advice from our very own Endroman. Jess has had a ripper season with podium action at Brighton, Rock 2 Ramp and Torquay. Sue Cox: Always in the top five and seasoned Open water swimmer Sue bagged a fair few podium finishes this year with wins at Queenscliff Blue Water Challenge and Port to Park OWS. Lindsey Crouch: Powerpoints favourite doing very well in the non wet suit category of the GVSS. Archer Talbot: Fresh back from the World Tri Champs and in top form our MSV president has had a great season. Won at the Funky Trunks Splash and Port to Park OWS. Powerpoints’ OWS Rookies Congratulations to our members who are out and having a crack at their first OWS. Emily Owen: Podium action at Briiiigton Darlings and top spot at the Port to Park OWS very impressive! Aaron Luxmore who swum his first open water swim at Point Lonsdale (shaping up to be the worst conditions over the season) Suwito Linoh: Seasoned pool competitor Suwito did his first OWS at MMAD. Congratulations to everyone who raced over OWS from seasoned campaigners to those members doing their first Open water swim. Social News Pointers Marriage: The gorgeous Shelley Taylor married running Champ Dave Ulbrick this January. Dave is now part of the Pointers Posse by marriage. Shelley and Dave moved to Perth last year but are still swimming for Powerpoints. Congratulations and best wishes for a long happy marriage. Upcoming Events Malvern Marlins’ Interclub: Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Marlins Interclub this weekend (February 8). Victorian Sprint Championships: Good luck to Gill O' Mara and Jenny Bucknell who are both racing in the Victorian Sprint Champs (MSAC Feb 8).
