LCRA and PEC award $21,500 to Bertram for
playground and welcome sign
The Bertram Economic Development
Corporation (BEDC) will be able to build a
new public playground and “Welcome to
Bertram” sign with the help of a $21,500
community development grant. The
additions are part of Bertram’s City Park
Improvement Project to enhance the quality
of life for the community.
The Lower Colorado River Authority and
Pedernales Electric Cooperative provided
the grant to BEDC to help provide a safe
and inviting area for Bertram residents
and visitors.
“The new welcome sign will replace an
old, damaged one that has been on the
western side of town for many years,”
said Mike Richardson, BEDC Board chair.
“This will help brighten Bertram’s image to
visitors and folks traveling through.”
LCRA presents a $21,500 grant to the Bertram Economic
Development Corporation for a playground and welcome sign
for the new city park. This grant is part of the LCRA’s Community
Development Partnership Program. Pictured, from left to right, are:

vice president; Mike Richardson Jr., BEDC president; Reta Whitley,

Board Member; Victoria Miller, LCRA representative; Annie Dell
Taylor, BEDC board member.
BEDC will build the playground and
welcome sign adjacent to the existing
community swimming pool, basketball
and tennis courts on two acres of land recently acquired from the Texas Department of Transportation.
This additional property gives Bertram a total of 13 acres of parks available to the public. BEDC is
constructing a five-foot-tall decorative iron fence along the perimeter of the community park to create a
parking area and safe recreation environment for the public.
“Bertram’s new city park will benefit immensely from the generous LCRA grant,” Richardson said.
“Adding more activities for families with children in Bertram will give kids more to do in the summer
when school is out and will give parents more in-town entertainment options year-round.”
The community grant is one of a number of grants recently awarded through LCRA’s Community
Development Partnership Program. The program provides economic development and community
assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and
other nonprofit organizations in LCRA’s electric and water service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s
effort to give back to the communities it serves. Pedernales Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s
wholesale electric customers and a partner in the grant program.
