Box 55020 Los Angeles, CA 90055-2020 213.627.2727 phone 213.833.6717 fax LACBA.org I am the Chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Judicial Elections Evaluation Committee (JEEC) and we are sending this to you by U.S. mail and email. The JEEC conducts in-depth evaluations of each candidate in contested races for Los Angeles Superior Court judicial offices. We have determined from the County RegistrarRecorder's Office that you currently hold a judicial office or you have expressed an interest in running for such an office. The JEEC wishes to start promptly with the evaluation process and we ask your help to do so. If you elect not to seek the office for which you have filed, please notify us and we will stop your evaluation. Please take a moment to view the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Internet web site for the current copy of the Committee's handbook (2012) at www.lacba.org/jeechandbook . The handbook provides you with information regarding the JEEC process and also contains links to the forms you will need to complete. In addition to other important information, the candidate's Personal Data Questionnaire (PDQ) form is provided in two formats: Online Questionnaire or Word. You can select the format you prefer by clicking the link that corresponds to your preferred format under Exhibit B. Please complete the online questionnaire or download the Word form immediately so that you may complete and submit a PDQ on or before March 10, 2014, the deadline for submission. As a part of the evaluation process, question #28 of the PDQ requests that you submit the names, email addresses and telephone numbers of 75 lawyers, judges or other persons with whom you have had professional contact over the past ten years, including everyone who you have identified in the PDQ. We request this information so that the committee can send out Confidential Questionnaires to these individuals. Please use the Candidate Reference Contact List, which is a separate document from the PDQ, and is a vital part of our evaluation process. If you are able to submit the names in advance of March 10th we would greatly appreciate it. By doing so we are better able to contact them individually and ensure that we have received responses from the individuals you have identified. We also request that you submit a digital photograph of yourself to accompany the attached LACBA JEEC Judicial Candidate Bio Sheet form in addition to enclosing a photograph with the PDQ. Your digital photograph will be posted to the LACBA/JEEC web site along with the brief bio before and after the evaluation process. The JEEC needs all of your completed documentation and your digital photo as soon as possible. Your digital photograph should be a recent photograph, with a plain background, passport photograph type image. The JEEC is under no obligation to use your photograph if, in the sole discretion of the JEEC, your photograph has inappropriate background material or extraneous material such as a campaign slogan or other similar formatting. If you have any questions about this, please contact Grace Danziger at the numbers below. LACBA JEEC 2014 Judicial Candidate Invitation February25, 2014 Page 2 of 2 The JEEC has a very limited period of time between the judicial office candidate-filing deadline and the election to conduct its examinations, interview each of the candidates and render our evaluations. This limited time frame makes your comprehensive and prompt completion of the documents critical. Please remember that each of the lawyers on the JEEC is a volunteer and your cooperation with timely responses is appreciated. To facilitate those goals, I am inviting you to attend a short but vital meeting with all candidates running for contested Superior Court offices on Monday evening, March 10, 2014, at 6:00 P.M. in the Board Room of the Los Angeles County Bar Association offices. Please note this meeting is for candidates only. No campaign advisors, consultants or other persons are invited to this meeting. During this meeting, we will review the evaluation process and answer your questions. If you have completed your PDQs and LACBA JEEC Judicial Candidate Bio Sheet in hard-copy and have your digital photographs, please bring these with you to the meeting. Otherwise please make certain that the following documents are supplied no later than March 10, 2014: • • • • • An up-to-date photograph on Digital Media; The completed LACBA JEEC Judicial Candidate Biography Sheet (available online in Word format); Completed and executed Personal Data Questionnaire; Candidate Reference Contact List of 75 references (PDQ question #28) with EMAIL addresses and phone numbers. These individuals will be sent Confidential Questionnaires on your behalf. We request that you provide the information in Excel format; If applicable, a personal or campaign related URL or website address. A complete JEEC Committee roster will be provided to you. If you have a conflict with any member of the JEEC, please contact me confidentially regarding your concerns. Our goal is to have a comprehensive, objective, and fair evaluation process for each candidate. If you will be attending the meeting on March 10, 2014, please RSVP to Grace Danziger by March 6, 2014, by e-mail to [email protected] or by phone at (213) 896-6407. The Los Angeles County Bar Association is located at: 1055 West 7th Street, Suite 2700 Los Angeles, CA 90017 There is ample parking in the building at $5 (entry after 4:30 p.m.).
