 ERAS 2014 – PDWS Archiving Procedures (Optional) ERAS 2014 ‐ PDWS Archiving Procedures (These instructions are optional)
Preparation for ERAS 2015 includes archiving the ERAS 2014 Program Director’s Workstation (PDWS) software from your server or local hard drive. It is important to note, that regardless of the software selection for the upcoming season, it is imperative that you still archive the ERAS 2014. After archiving the ERAS 2014 data, be sure to save these instructions, as they will be helpful, should you wish to re‐
activate the 2014 database for any reason. ERAS 2014 PostOffice Closing The ERAS 2014 PostOffice will remain open until 5:00 PM Eastern Time (ET) on May 31, 2014. All files will be purged from the ERAS PostOffice after 5:00 PM on May 31. You should download the remainder of your files before May 31. ERAS does not retain the MyERAS application or any other application documents. ERAS collects and retains only a limited dataset for future analysis. Archiving ERAS 2014 Data To preserve the capability to restore the ERAS 2014 system for operation in the future, you need to back up the ERASSERV.K14 folder in its entirety. Back up the entire ERASSERV.K14 folder and move to an alternate storage location: 1. Locate the ERASSERV.K14 folder. (To determine the location of your ERASSERV.K14 folder, open the PDWS software. At the top of the screen, click on System|System Information. Next to the blue link entitled Server path is the location of the ERASSERV.K14 folder.) 2. Make note of the entire server path listed and close the PDWS software. 3. Next, go to the location where the ERASSERV.K14 folder is located. (If unsure where to locate the ERASSERV.K14 folder, consult your IT department for assistance). 4. Right click on the ERASSERV.K14 folder and select copy. 5. Finally, right click and paste the entire folder on one of the following options: external hard drive, USB flash drive, CD‐R/RW (CD‐recordable/CD‐rewritable disk) or to a location on your network file server. ERAS 2014 – PDWS Archiving Procedures (Optional) Uninstalling the PDWS To locate the uninstall procedure, select Start Programs ERAS 2014 Uninstall PDWS 2014. Follow the on screen instructions. We recommend you select automatic uninstall instead of custom. Restoring ERAS 2014 If your PDWS files are backed up, you will be able to access the complete ERAS 2014 applicant information for your program. If you used backup/restore software, restore the files by following the instructions that came with your software. If you copied your ERASSERV.K14 folder to an external storage device or burned the folder to a CD‐R/RW then follow these instructions: Restoring from an external storage device (i.e. USB flash drive or external hard drive): 1. Copy the ERASSERV.K14 folder from the external storage device to the C:\ drive of your computer. 2. Click OK. Double‐click the ERASSERV.K14 folder. 3. Double‐click and run the PDWSETUP.EXE. This will reinstall the ERAS 2014 PDWS and place the ERASPDW.K14 directory on your C:\ drive. Restoring from a CD: 1. Copy the ERASSERV.K14 folder from the CD‐R/RW to the C:\ drive of your computer. 2. Right click on the ERASSERV.K14 folder on your computer and click Properties. 3. Uncheck the Read‐only option. 4. Click Apply. 5. Click the Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files option. 6. Click OK. Double‐click ERASSERV.K14. 7. Double‐click PDWSETUP.EXE. This will reinstall the ERAS 2014 PDWS and place the ERASPDW.K14 directory on your C:\ drive. To run the restored ERAS 2014 PDWS, click the PDWS icon on your desktop. © 2014 AAMC. ERAS 2014 – PDWS Archiving Procedures (Optional) ERAS PostOffice Schedule The ERAS 2014 PostOffice will close at 5:00 PM ET on May 31, 2014. The ERAS 2015 PostOffice will begin operation on: 
June 11, 2014 for EFDO 
July 1, 2014 for ECFMG 
July 15, 2014 for July application cycle fellowship programs and osteopathic residency programs 
September 15, 2014 for allopathic residency programs (September application cycle)  December 1, 2014 for December application cycle fellowship programs You should complete the archiving process as soon as possible, preferably before the ERAS 2015 PostOffice opens. Please note that U.S. medical schools began accessing the ERAS PostOffice on April 15 to begin processing applicant credentials for the 2015 season.
