Special Achievements during the month: Rainwater Harvesting Rally The NSS units of Chidambaram Pillai College for Women, Manachanallur, Trichy district organised an awareness rally on rainwater harvesting on 17th June 2014. Dr. K. Sekar, Principal of the college flagged off the rally at the college campus after a short speech on the importance of Rainwater Harvesting. The Rally went around the streets of Mannachanallur carrying placards and raising the slogans of Rainwater Harvesting. All the NSS Volunteers took the oath to make the Rain Water Harvesting System in their households and in the college also. Principal, Dr. K. Sekar flags off the rain water harvesting rally Newspaper Clippings Dinamani Bharathidasan University The Hindu 2 Monthly Report July 2014 The Hindu The Indian Express ToT Programme by RGNIYD The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur organised a 5-day Training of Trainers Programme on Social Harmony and National Unity for the NSS Programme Officers from 24th to 28th June 2014 at Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda, Telengana State in collaboration with NSS Regional Centre, Hyderabad. Mr. P. Srinivasan, NSS Programme Officer, BDU Constituent College, Srirangam, Trichy Dt and Dr. Dravida Rani, NSS Programme Officer, K.N. Govt. Arts College for Women, Thanjavur participated in the Training Programme. Telengana Newspaper Clipping Leucoderma Awareness Human Chain The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the Leucoderma Awareness Movement – India, Chennai organised a human chain in Trichy on 25th June 2014. About 700 NSS Volunteers from various colleges in Trichy formed the human chain from Trichy Railway Junction to Trichy Head Post Office. The NSS Volunteers carried the placards about the disease. Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur The Indian Red Cross Society and Indian Medical Association of Perambalur organised a blood donation camp on 25.06.2014 at Government Higher Secondary School, Perambalur. Mr. Therese Ahmed, District Collector, Perambalur inaugurated the camp. About 76 NSS Volunteers of Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur donated about 76 units of blood in this camp. Annai College of Arts & Science, Kumbakonam The NSS units of Annai College of Arts & Science, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur district organised a blood donation camp on 04.07.2014. Dr. S. Ananth, Principal of the college inaugurated the programme at the college campus. Dr. S. Anbazhagan, Doctor from Government Hospital organised the camp. More than 100 NSS volunteers came forward to donate their blood but after checking the health condition of the volunteers, the doctors identified only 57 NSS Volunteers are eligible for blood donation. Bharathidasan University 6 Monthly Report July 2014 3. Vivekananda College of Arts & Science for Women, Sirkali The NSS Units of Vivekananda College of Arts & Science for Women, Sirkali, Nagapattinam district organised a blood group identification and blood donation camp on 15th July 2014 for the students of the college at the college campus. Ms. Jeyanthikrishna, Vice-Principal welcomed the gathering. Shri. K.V. Radhakrishnan, Secretary of the college was the chief guest while Dr. K. Ramakrishnan, Principal delivered the presidential address. Dr. K. Pandian, M.D., Doctor from Chidambaram Government Hospital delivered the special address. Dr. S. Arunrajkumar along with three nurses and two lab technicians conducted the blood group identification and blood donation camp. Blood group was identified for around 350 students of which 200 were came forward for blood donation, but only 46 students were able to donate their blood on the day. Bharathidasan University 7 Monthly Report July 2014 NYC Volunteer Selection The NSS Coordinator of Bharathidasan University, Dr. L. Ganesan was nominated as a member of the NYC Volunteer selection committee of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Trichy region. He attended the selection process of NYC Volunteer on 01st July 2014. State Level NSS Coordinators Meet The NSS Coordinator of Bharathidasan University, Dr. L. Ganesan attended the State level Review-cum-Planning meeting of NSS Coordinators organised by the NSS Regional Centre, Chennai and Tamil Nadu State NSS Cell on 4th July 2014 at Sathyabama University, Chennai. NSS Coordinator meet with Deputy Commissioner of Police The Trichy City Police in association with the NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University have planned to conduct a survey on Police Public Relationship in the Trichy City Corporation limit. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr. Abhinav Kumar, I.P.S. request the coordinator to form a committee to pursue the survey. The committee consists Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS Coordinator is the convener, Dr. M. Selvam, Professor & Head, Department of Commerce and Management, Dr. T. Jaisankar, Head, Department of Statistics and Mr. P. Muruganandham, NSS Supporting staff are being the members of the committee. They were discussed about separate questionnaire seeking perception on the performance of Police with Public and seeking opinion on Public in relation with Police in various Law and Order, Traffic and Crime activities. Vice-Chancellor & BHEL Deputy General Manager Meet on WISH Programme Mr. K. Murali, Deputy General Manager (HR), BHEL met the new ViceChancellor of Bharathidasan University on 15th July 2014 in connection with inauguration of II Phase BHEL CSR - BDU NSS WISH Project with regard to distribution of Electrical Sanitary Napkin Incinerators to the colleges and schools under the jurisdiction of Bharathidasan University. Mr. K. Murali and Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS Coordinator briefly explained the objectives and activities of the Bharathidasan University 8 Monthly Report project. July 2014 Honourable Vice-Chancellor patiently listened and expressed his happiness over this social cause and assured his full support to move forward the II Phase of this project successfully within the stipulated period. Inauguration of NSS Activities The inauguration of NSS Activities of Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College, Trichy was held on 16th July 2014 at the college campus. Mrs. K. Anitha, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. Dr. M. Jeyanthi, Principal of the college offered felicitations by quoting the noble activities of Mother Teresa. Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS Coordinator, Bharathidasan University delivered the presidential address. In his speech, he spoke about the motto of National Service Scheme “Not Me But You” and encouraged the NSS Volunteers to be more helpful for others than be selfish. In the end, Ms. L.
