Blessed with an angelic and crystalline timbre, French soprano Julie CHERRIER acquired an certain
and indisputably vocal technic thanks to her learning from most renowned artists in France (Gabriel
BACQUIER, Jean-Philippe LAFONT, Denise DUPLEIX), in Italy (Renata SCOTTO) and in Spain (Teresa
BERGANZA). She gained a solid knowledge in style and interpretation working with best opera
coaches : Janine REISS, and the American, Paris-based Jeff COHEN. A graduate from Academia Santa
Cecilia in Rome, Italy, a Conservatoire National de Nancy (France) gold medal in singing and harp,
Julie has also a Bachelor of Arts in musicology. Her musical sensitiveness and ability to express a
refine melodic line were acclaimed as of her first appearances on stage.
She first sang opera on stage in Rome Santa Cecilia Academy, under the direction of Renata SCOTTO
(2006), who gave Julie CHERRIER the opportunity to interpret the roles of Lauretta in Puccini's
Rondine, and Juliette in Gounod's Romeo and Juliet.
In 2007, Julie is the winner of the "Tremplin de l'Est" singing competition, which leads her to be
recruited by the famous French director Jacques MERCIER, to sing the oratorio King David by
Honegger accompanied by the Orchestre National de Lorraine, and to create the composition by
Pierre Thilloy named America, symphony pour soprano et orchestre under the direction of Japonese
director Kanako Abé. She then sang several times the role of Antonia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann) in
Brasov opera (Rumania). For Christmas, she has had the opportunity to sing Mozart's Solemn
Vespers, Ut minor Mass and Exultate Jubilate in several Parisian churches together with the "Note et
Bien" symphonic, directed by Julien LEROY.
The year 2008 gave Julie the opportunity to perform in Luxembourg with the National Orchestra in
Fauré Requiem and Cesar Franck Seven Last Words of the Christ. Julie had been noticed by the CEO
of the Festival des Forêts (northern region of Paris) who hired her to sing several arie with the
Orchestre national de Picardie (Pascal VERROT, conductor). She was the winner of Massy (south of
Paris) Opera Competition, which gave Julie the opportunity and the great peasure of singing the solist
part in Haydn's Missa in Tempore Belli in the Opéra de Massy concert hall, conducted by director
Dominique ROUITS. She then sang in the magnificent Théâtre du Châtelet the soprano part of
Carmina Burana under the direction of Patritzia MEZLER.
The year 2009 led Julie to sing in several important places, such as Nancy National Opera (Liù,
Lauretta, youth program led by José Cura), Le Chesnay theater (for its opening), in CIMA Festival in
Italy (Monte-Argentario), Pauline Viardot's house in Bougival (roles of Susanna, Contessa and Micaela
in a Teresa Berganza young soloist program). This great artist became fond of Julie and as she
believes in Julie’s talent she naturally patronized her along with Jorge Chaminé. She was then given
the opportunity to sing in Paris broadcasted live at the Radio France. During this summer, Julie had
been invited to the Festival des Forêts where she performed a Schubert récital, accompanied by the
pianist Tristan PFAFF.
The year 2010 is underscored by Julie’s engagements in France prime operas. In Metz National Opera,
she is partner with baritone Jean-Philippe Lafont in Les Mousquetaires au Couvent, and has also a role
in the re-creation of Alfred Bruno's L'Attaque du Moulin. Then, she had been invited in several French
festivals and was part of Puteaux (West of Paris) Rencontres Musicales, where she sang bel canto arie
(I Capuletti, La fille du régiment, I Puritani) accompanied by Orchestre Lamoureux conducted by
Marco GUIDARINI.
In 2011, Julie's carrier turned to become international as the world-famous French pianist and
conductor Philippe ENTREMONT decided to hire Julie in a 20-dates US tour with Mahler Forth
Symphony with one of the very best German orchestras (Deutschestaatphilarmonie), and again in
another 15-dates Mozart Requiem US tour (with Munich Orchestra this time). As they drove together
throughout the United-States, Julie and Philippe ENTREMONT became very close, and this wise and
reputed decided to patronize the young artist. Since then, Julie considers having two great mentors :
Mrs BERGANZA for the voice and Maestro ENTREMONT for music. Among other performances this
year, Julie had been hired by Marseille National Opera to be standing in of the great soprano Patrizia
CIOFI in the role of Juliet (Gounod).
In 2012, there were for Julie the pleasure to sing again under Maestro ENTREMONT direction in New
York (Manhattan School of Music graduation concert) in Mozart Concert Arias. In the famous French
Hall Theatre Impérial de Compiègne, she sang opera arie (Mozart, Offenbach, Manon…) with
Orchestre national de Picardie conducted by Arie VAN BEEK. The gave a Schubert Recital with pianist
Tristan PFAFF in Biarritz (South of France). Thank's to her nice demeanor and elegance, Julie is
spotted by Luxembourg filmmaker Pol Crüchten, who hired her to play the role of a Soprano in a
movie inspired by Goethe's Les Brigands. She acted in a duet scene opposed to Acadamy Oscar
Maximilian Schell. Her interpretation of Monterverdi's Lamento di Ariana is the soundtrack.
In 2013, Julie sang regularly with Octuor de France, all around France, in Hong Kong and Macao for
the French May Festival, where she sang The Phantom of the Opera and Au bonheur des Dames, both
creations written by Canadian composer Gabriel Thibeaudeau. During the summer, she sang Poulenc’s
opera La Voix humaine under Philippe ENTREMONT conduction, at Fontainebleau castle and in Ravel
Festival in Montfort-Lamaury. In June she had the joy to sing Manon's Cour la Reine and Gavotte
broadcasted live by the French National TV channel in the famous "Music Feast" in Orange antic
Theater, accompanied by Orchestre National de Montpellier conducted by Maestro Luciano ACOCELLA.
At the end of 2013 and 2014, she will again give La Voix humaine in several places such as Theâtre
Imperial de Compiègne and Metz Arsenal. She will aslo sing Mozart’s concert arie with Orchestre
national de Rouen. She will be musician “in residence” at Festival des Forêts. She will sing in May with
Yo-Yo MA the bachianas brasileiras in Paris. She’s invited to sing accompanied by the Chinese National
Orchestra at the openning of the Festival « Meet in Beijing » broadcasted live by China TV ; for this
prestigious occasion, she’ll sing Manon of Massenet and the part of Juliette of Gounod.
She will perform Strauss and Schubert melodies with Philippe Entremont and Dana CIOCARLIE in
France and Italy.
