One of the recommendations of the Working Group on Appointment P o l i c y in i t s report dated
31 August 1972 was that a survey should be made of the training needs of the O r g a n i s a t i o n . We have
asked P r o f e s s o r O . Kofoed-Hansen to c a r r y out this s u r v e y .
Amongst other things, P r o f e s s o r Kofoed-Hansen would like to obtain the views of a l a r g e
number of people by means of personal i n t e r v i e w s . He plans to s t a r t interviewing in April and wishes
to talk with s e v e r a l hundred people, representing a sample of the h i e r a r c h i c a l l e v e l s and of the p r o f e s sional a c t i v i t i e s of C E R N , E a c h person concerned will r e c e i v e an explanatory l e t t e r together with a
list of questions which they a r e invited to r e f l e c t upon before the interview takes p l a c e .
We s i n c e r e l y hope that all members of the personnel chosen for this important survey will
reply f r e e l y and openly to the questions a s k e d .

Une des recommandations du Groupe de T r a v a i l sur la Politique de l'Emploi, dans son rapport

formation p r o f e s s i o n n e l l e . Nous avons chargé le P r o f e s s e u r O . Kofoed-Hansen de cette évaluation.
Pour remplir sa mission, le P r o f e s s e u r Kofoed-Hansen souhaite, entre a u t r e s , r e c u e i l l i r un
grand nombre d'avis au moyen d'entrevues individuelles. A p a r t i r du mois d'avril 1 9 7 4 , il projette de
s ' e n t r e t e n i r a v e c plusieurs centaines de p e r s o n n e s , correspondant à un échantillonnage des grades
et des a c t i v i t é s p r o f e s s i o n n e l l e s du C E R N .
Chacun des i n t é r e s s é s r e c e v r a une l e t t r e explicative accompagnée d'une l i s t e de questions
auxquelles il est invité à r é f l é c h i r avant l ' e n t r e t i e n .
Nous souhaitons vivement que t o u s l e s m e m b r e s du personnel c h o i s i s pour cette enquête
importante répondent librement et franchement aux questions p o s é e s .

Abstract : Microprogramming was introduced in 1951 as a technique
for the orderly design of the control section of a proc e s s o r . In the I 9 6 0 ' s , microprogramming became important for
instruction set computability and emulation of previous instruction
s e t s . We a r e now entering an era where microprogramming will
be used as an important intermediary between the hardware and
software in a computer system architecture. This evolution will
be discussed along with reasons for using microprogrammed control
in p r o c e s s o r s . The architecture of the Datasaab FCPU (Flexible
Control Processing Unit) will be introduced to illustrate the proc e s s o r properties required in entering the new era of micropro

philosophie et théologie) à Montpellier et à Princeton (USA), Licencié en
Philosophie et Docteur en Théologie. Pasteur à Gap et Beauvoisin de 1933
à 1942. Secrétaire national des Unions chrétiennes des jeunes gens (YMCA)
de 1942 à 1948. Pasteur à Toulouse de 1948 à 1960. Secrétaire général de
1'"Eglise Réformée de France" de 1960 à 1970. Depuis 1970 est chargé d'ani
mer et de coordonner la recherche théologique.
Roger GARAUDY est né le 7 juillet 1913 à Marseille. Agrégé de Philosophie, Docteur es Lettres de la Faculté de Paris, ainsi que Docteur es
Sciences de l'Institut de Philosophie de l'Académie des Sciences de l'URSS
Ancien membre du Bureau politique du Parti communiste français. Vice-Prési
dent de l'Assemblée nationale de 1956 à 1958. Ancien sénateur de la Seine

An attempt is being made to start a CERN W O M E N S CLUB with the object of encouraging wives of CERN people and women on the staff of CERN to form groups with
a common interest to ensure that every woman can follow her interests and make
new friends. Social activities, discussion g r o u p s , art and crafts courses and
sports activities are envisaged. It is hoped that a scheme for mutual help in
times of emergency can be organized and that newcomers and visitors may be helped to settle happily in Geneva. The tremendous enthusiasm and interest shown in
M r . T o r t e l I a s cookery classes has encouraged this new initiative and w e would
like to find out if there is any support for the idea and who would be willing
to help organize such groups. As at present envisaged the CERN W 0 M E N S CLUB
would be affiliated to the Staff Association and would be able to use the two

in the first few days a friendly hand is often essential. If you would be prepared to undertake any of the following duties for a short time in an emergency
please indicate them :

We aim to make a I 1st of helpers in each area to give to the Social Affairs
Section so that assistance can be given when help is required.

Every month the Personnel Office invites newcomers to meet other CERN w i v e s . T h e
new arrivals are given a great deal of useful information and many of the w e l come committee wives continue to give help and advice after the initial contact.
It would be most useful if you would volonteer to continue this work by inviting
the newcomers to a "neighbourhood coffee morning".

GROUPE ENVIRONNEMENT
As a first result we have recieived 65 answerss to our quest
34 AUTO-POOLS have been proposed. Our action continues . We are particularly looking for participants from the following places :
France : Ferney-Voltaire, Versonnex. Pouilly/Perron, St Jean-de-Gonville,
St Genis, Annecy, St Julien, Bossey, Douvaine, Gaillard, Usinens, Divonne, Crozet, Gex, St Germain/Bellegarde.
Switzerland : Carouge, Bernex, Founex, Satigny, Avully, Versoix, Nyon,
Begnins, Vernier, Onex, Servette, Champel, Bouchet, Meyrin-Village,

CERN I - CHAMPION SUISSE DE LIGUE NATIONALE B - GROUPE OUEST
Vendredi dernier se déroulait le match CERN I - CHENOIS 2, décidant
du vainqueur du championnat de ligue nationale B, Groupe Ouest. Après
un match très disputé et plein de suspens , le CERN maintenant un rythme
de feu élevé, enthousiasma tous les supporters venus nombreux qui, tout
au long du match, ne cessèrent de l'encourager. Finalement, le CERN
l'emporta par 3 sets à 2 (9-15, 15-7, 15-8, 16-14, 15-11).
Un grand bravo pour le dévouement de son capitaine et entraineur qui,
depuis trois ans, a su faire progresser remarquablement cette équipe du
CERN I.
Dimanche, joueurs et supporters se retrouvèrent (grâce à l'impulsion
sympathique du responsable des loisirs I) pour une sortie de ski aux
Contamines. Si le soleil fut peu de la partie, la bonne humeur en revanche régna toute la journée et ce fut après une longue et très bonne
journée que tout le monde se sépara en se donnant rendez-vous dimanche
10 mars à 10 h 30 à la salle des Asters (en face Migros de la Servette).
En effet, dimanche 10 mars, le CERN reçoit UNI-BALE, champion }.igue nationale B Groupe Est. L'ascension en ligue nationale A est l'enjeu de
ces 2 matches (aller&retour). La partie sera très difficile. Aussi,
supporters et membres du club, venez encore plus nombreux encourager et
porter cette équipe du CERN à une nouvelle victoire.

2000, lexi-datas, puzzles. Instamatics 355X et 56X, pockets instamatics

Sinclair Executive Memory : 4 opérations, constant arithmétique (multiplication, division etc.) mémoire simple et mémoire (calculs en chaîne).
