Castle Hill RSL BOARD Elections
CHRSL Board elections are currently taking place and will close soon (open to CHRSL members only). Two of our Club patrons Dave
Wood & Rick Cummings are running for the elections. They both listed on their candidate profiles that they are Patrons of the Dolphins
Swim club and would be good to support them.
I know both directors would appreciate the support if you can vote.
Long Course (50m) v’s Short Course Times (25m)
This time each year we try to explain the difference between long course (50m) and short course (25m) times. We do our best to explain
it however we understand that many parents get confused with it. If you are not sure, please make sure you either speak with your
coach or see our race secretary, Kerrie McDonald for further information.
It is a requirement by Swimming NSW that any swimmer who is entering a LC meet be entered in at their (best) LC time for that event.
Many swimmers will have faster SC times (especially when we race most of the year in our home pool which is SC). Thus, it is the
Committee’s intention this season to try and help out in providing a few different opportunities for Dolphin swimmers to update their
current LC times from the previous season.
Thus, we will be holding 2 x Friday nights at Parramatta Pool in October as well as targeting a Long Course Development Meet at
Blacktown Pool for our 12/u swimmers as well as a Long Course meet at Lane Cove for all ages. All these meets will be prior to the
SMNW Summer Championships to be held in November.
Please note, you may not achieve a qualifying time in the Long Course pool and may think you cannot enter the event. This is NOT
correct. You can still enter an event at a Long Course carnival with a Short Course qualifying time however you will be entered at the
minimum Qualifying Time for that event.

Rules for Club Nights
We would like to take this opportunity to advise our members of some of the operating rules on Friday Nights or other club activities
being held at the C2K premises.
Our venue hire starts at 6:15 and C2K Swimming make Lanes 1, 2, 3 & 4 available to us at that time for warm-ups or for the long
distance events on Program 3. These lanes will be supervised and should be used for warm-up purposes only. The only lane for diving
practice is Lane 1.
It is the responsibility of C2K staff to approach and request C2K Members to move lanes. The move from Lane 4 to Lanes 7 and 8 will
be made at the conclusion of the Platinum Squad at 6:15pm.
The Gold Squad in Lanes 5 and 6 finishes at 6:30pm. Dolphin’s members should remain clear of this area whilst training sessions are in
place with no interruption to C2K staff / coaches conducting classes and no moving of equipment.
Parents must ensure there is supervision provided for your own child/children throughout the evening. Under no circumstances should
swimmers under 17 be dropped off to participate in club nights without an accompanying parent present.
The smaller pool has always been out of bounds for Dolphins members and we encourage parents to undertake a level of supervision to
ensure children are not using the smaller pool unless paying the standard C2K entry fee.
The use of the showers on pool deck is for wash-down purposes and not for socialising. In the interest of improving water usage, these
showers should only be used for short periods – 3 mins maximum per person.
Finally it should go without saying that the Dolphins Club encourage co-operation with the C2K staff at all times to ensure we conduct a
safe program each week.
TECHNICAL OFFICIALS
TECHNICAL OFFICIALS
Interested in qualifying as a Technical Official
We need qualified TOs to ensure that we can continue to run a successful swimming club. The Metro North West Area will be conducting
presentations for all TO positions as follows:
Monday, 27 October
Wednesday, 5 November
Thursday, 6 November
Thursday, 13 November
Marshal/Check Starter OR Recorder
Marshal/Check Starter OR Timekeeper*
Chief Timekeeper OR Starter
Starter OR Timekeeper*
* Includes a presentation on the General Principles of Swimming Officiating.
All presentations will be held at The Hills clubhouse at The Hills Memorial Pool (‘Waves’), Mileham Ave, Baulkham Hills. Presentations
start at 7:30pm sharp and go for 2 to 2½ hours depending on the accreditation sought. Before attending a presentation candidates need
to complete some self managed preparation and study. Practical training for the various roles will be given here at the club during our
Friday nights.
Anyone interested in qualifying as a TO should see Ron Brettle on a Friday night. Ron can also be contacted through our website at
[email protected].
Registration for 2014 - 2015
Accreditation as a Technical Official is valid for four years from the date of issue. However the qualification only remains current whilst
the TO is registered with Swimming NSW. All Dolphin TOs need to register for the new swimming year which began on 01 October. If
you haven’t already done so, you need to register on line ASAP.
Parramatta Pool
We will be swimming at Parramatta pool on Friday, 24 October and Friday, 31 October. These two nights will give our swimmers a
chance to set or to improve their existing long course (50 metre pool) qualifying times for MNW Summer. Both meets are scheduled to
start at 6:30pm and should be finished by around 9:00pm.
We will need the usual number of TOs on both nights. Di McGaulley, our Carnival Convener, will be preparing a roster for Timekeepers
and Runners. We normally don’t use a Runner at the RSL pool however Parramatta pool covers a much bigger area. We will need two
volunteers to move the paperwork around the pool deck and put up the results sheets.
