Term 1 – Number 7
Thursday, 16th October 2014
I am delighted to tell you that we have appointed Miss Laura Johnson as our Deputy Headteacher.
Miss Johnson will be joining our Primary School in January (Term 3). She is joining us from
Gloucestershire and has plenty of experience and energy! We look forward to welcoming her.
Years 3 & 4 had a superb trip to Caerleon last Friday as part of their Roman topic. It was our first
school trip of the year and I would like to thank the teachers for their hard work organising it and
the parents who helped. I was very proud to hear that the children not only had a great time but
were also very well behaved.
It has been a wet week all round this week with Years 2, 3 & 4 going swimming! Again, a big well done
to the children for getting themselves organised and thank you to the class teachers, TAs, Mrs
Lambert and Mr Smith for organising what has been a logistical challenge! Also, again, a huge thank
you to all the parents who have supported this week by escorting groups back and forth to the
Leisure Centre.
We had a great time at Church this morning at our Harvest Festival. Many thanks for all your
contributions for Swindon Foodbank. Year 1 also went back to Church this afternoon as part of their
RE topic of ‘Belonging’. Rev. Phil ‘christened’ the Year 1 Teddy Bear in an exhibition Baptism ceremony
(complete with Teddy’s ‘parents’ and ‘godparents’)!
This is my last newsletter of Term 1. It has been a very busy term and I am sure that you will be
impressed by how much the children have done and the progress they have made when you speak with
your child’s class teacher either this evening or on Tuesday. I look forward to seeing many of you at
these times and would like to thank you for all your support this term as we began the new school
year as a Primary School.
We break up on Wednesday, 22nd October at 3:00pm / 3:15pm and the children return to school on
Tuesday, 4th November.

Parent’s Evenings and Book Fair
All parent / teacher meetings will take place in the school halls. If you have a child in the Lower
School, you can access the Lower School building without coming to the Main Office in the Upper
School as it is not during school hours. We realise that this will be more convenient for people and
will hopefully avoid congestion in the main entrance to the school.
You are very welcome to go to your child’s classroom, where your child’s work will be out for you to
see. We also hope that, if you haven’t already, you visit the Book Fair which will be in the main
entrance of the school.
Clubs Notices
Please remember that there will be no after school clubs on Thursday 16th & Tuesday, 21st
October due to Parents Evenings
There will be no card making clubs with Mrs Mulcock after school next week, Monday 20th &
Wednesday, 22nd October
Year 6 Cake Sale
On Wednesday, 22th October, at 3:00 / 3:15pm, a Halloween bake sale will be held. All of the
money that is raised will go to Cancer Research and it will be run by three Year 6 pupils,
Miranda, Laura and Eleanor. The bake sale will be in the middle playground and will end when
no one is left. If you would like to send in any cakes for the sale, then we would be very

Netball Report
Despite the heavy rain yesterday, St. Sampson’s netball team recorded their first win, against
Westlea, in only their second match! Having lost their first match, by quite a lot, they bounced back
and showed a huge improvement, especially in their passing and defending. The only goal of the game
came in the third quarter scored by Emma Coole, playing in her first match for the school.
Well done to the whole team and also to the parents who braved the rain!
Team: Erin (Captain), Isla, Saskia, Chloe, Ella and Emma.
