 Workshop
New Telecom Network Architectures for the Cloud Era
Workshop Chair: Massimo Tornatore, Politecnico di Milano, Italy Workshop scope Tremendous changes in telecom networks are required to enable the Gigabit cloud society, leading to enormous investments in network infrastructures. Novel telecom network solutions must be identified to enable scalable access to cloud services, a real challenge for all experts working in the field of ICT. Several European projects dealing with different aspects of this problem are currently active. The main goal of this workshop is to present the current activities carried on in 5 of these ongoing European projects and to explore possible synergies. The 5 projects are: COMBO (http://www.ict‐combo.eu/): COMBO investigates new integrated approaches for Fixed / Mobile Converged (FMC) broadband access / aggregation networks . IDEALIST (http://www.ict‐idealist.eu/): The key objective behind IDEALIST is to research in detail a cost and power efficient transport network architecture able to carry a wide range of signal bandwidths. DISCUS (http://www.discus‐fp7.eu/): DISCUS goal is to develop a new radical network architectural concept that can enable an integrated wireless and FTTP future network. ERMES (http://www.ermes‐project.eu/) ERMES proposes a disruptive approach to the ONU transmitter for the Next Generation Access Network (NGAN) wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks. CONTENT (http://content‐fp7.eu/) CONTENT focuses on developing a next generation ubiquitous converged network infrastructure to support the network of the future based on the IaaS paradigm.
