CEDAR CITY, Utah - The no. 21 Thunderbirds return to the Centrum Arena to take
on Ball State after a close loss to BYU on Friday which included a record breaking
night on the uneven bars.
Redshirt sophomore Kirsten Yee broke the SUU uneven bars record, previously held
by Elise Wheeler and Alyssa Click, Friday evening with a 9.95 in front of a large
home crowd for the Thunderbirds first home meet of the season. “I knew when I
landed that was the best routine I could do for my team. It was a great feeling,” Yee
said.
Coach Scott Bauman said that moment is ranked as one of his most enjoyable moments in his coaching career. “Kirsty has come so far, and to see her compete like she
could was such an amazing moment. I literally jumped with excitement when she
landed.”
Alyssa Click was in the audience to see her record broken and it was an emotional
moment. “That was the most impressive routine I have seen. It deserved every tenth
it was given. I couldn’t be happier for Kirsten.”
Fellow record holder Elise Wheeler watched the live stream from her home in Japan
and later posted via social media about the routine, “Records are made to be broken.
Congratulations to SUU’s new uneven bar record holder, Kirsten Yee!
The match-up on Monday with the Cardinals will be the second meet for the Thunderbirds in a three meet home stand that ends Friday evening against San Jose State.

The Cardinals are coming off a home loss to Central Michigan
where they put up a season-high score of 193.775.
The Cardinals are led by junior Denashia Christian and freshman Jordyn Penny. Christian has scored a season high for the
Cardinals on vault and floor with 9.85 and 9.90 respectively.
Penny holds the highest all-around for the Cardinals this season with a 38.475.
Thunderbird sophomore Tyly Bozzuto leads the Flippin’ Birds
in the all-around with a 39.175, which she scored on Friday
evening against the Cougars. Danielle Ramirez tops the charts
for the Thunderbirds on vault, averaging a 9.831 and Jamie
Armijo leads the team on uneven bars with an average of
9.838.
Stacie Webb places first on the team on the balance beam,
averaging a score of 9.825. Senior Ana Jaworski leads the
Thunderbirds on floor exercise, averaging a 9.756.
The Flippin’ Birds begin competition at 7:00 p.m. in the Centrum Arena. This meet is the Family Night Meet where SUU
fans can purchase five tickets, five hot dogs and five drinks for
just $25 while supplies last.
