Fort Madison School District starts salary talks &EVDBUJPOBTTPDJBUJPO TFFLTSBJTFJOUIF base pay for teachers. By SARAH TOMKINSON [email protected] FORT MADISON — The Fort Madison Education Association is seeking a 9.3 percent raise in the base pay for teachers as it opened this year’s contract negotiations Monday night. It would move the base from $32,250 to $35,250. The school district has proposed no raise at all. Other changes the association is requesting include giving teachers an additional personal day, totaling three a year, and allowing up to six employees in the middle school to take a personal day on the same day. The school district is requesting a change to the staff reduction clause, asking the decision on whom to lay off not rely solely on seniority. The school district also wants to base layoffs by department, making sure the school district does not lose programs or extracurricular activities. Negotiations will continue between the district and the association. The current contact expires June 30. The contract being discussed is for one year.
