Marion Technical College's (MTC) Law Enforcement Academy meets the Ohio Peace
Officer Training Commission's Basic Peace Officer Training requirements mandated as of
July 2015.
Curriculum and Requirements
Students who successfully complete the Marion Law Enforcement Academy will earn 25 college credits. The college credits
may be applied toward a MTC Associate of Technical Studies degree or some of the credits may be applied toward a MTC
Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice degree. Upon successful completion of all Academy requirements, students
will be eligible to take the OPOTC exam.
Academy dates: August 24, 2015 – April 30, 2016. Classes meet Monday through Thursday evenings 6–10 p.m. and
occasional Friday/Saturday/Sunday sessions are required. There is mandatory attendance in all classes.
Students must meet the following Admission Requirements:
 Have committed no felonies or serious misdemeanors
 Possess a high school diploma or GED
 Pass a health and physical exam and a criminal background check from a law enforcement agency
 Furnish a copy of their valid Ohio driver’s license
Priority acceptance into the Marion Law Enforcement Academy is now through May 1, 2015.
Application Instructions
1. Meet with an MTC admission counselor by contacting the Office of Admission 740.389.4636 Ext. 260.
2. Submit a Marion Technical College Application for Admission (select Marion Law Enforcement Associate of Technical
Studies (ATS)) and pay the nonrefundable $20 application fee.
3. Apply for financial aid online at www.mtc.edu/FinancialAid/index.html . The FAFSA can be completed at
www.fafsa.ed.gov using the federal school code for MTC, 010736. The deadline for completing the FAFSA is July 6, 2015.
FAFSA worksheets are available online or in the Financial Aid Office to assist you in preparing the information needed to
complete the application. Before you complete the FAFSA, you will need to create a Personal Identification Number (PIN)
on the FAFSA website. Once your application has been processed, MTC will notify you of your eligibility.
4. Complete the Reading and Writing portions of the Basic Skills Assessment (COMPASS). Applicants must place college
level English (ENG1000 English Composition I) or complete a foundation course. Take the COMPASS in the Student
Resource Center located in the Technical Education Center.
5. Complete the Marion Law Enforcement Academy Application and submit it to Kristy Taylor or in MTC’s Technical
Education Center, Room 161C or email it to [email protected]. Schedule an academic advising appointment and
appointment for the physical assessment through Kristy Taylor at 740.389.4636 Ext. 273 or [email protected] .
6. Meet with a Criminal Justice academic advisor or the Academy Commander to review your COMPASS results, discuss the
Academy, and schedule an appointment for your physical assessment.
7. Take the physical assessment. If eligible, you will receive a Marion Law Enforcement Academy Forms.
8. Complete and submit the Marion Law Enforcement Academy Application Packet to the Commander no later than
July 10, 2015.
