EVENT RECAP
christmas lights
Our December Christmas lights tour was just awesome. One of our “best
tours to date.” One of our favorite light displays was the “Ditto” sign ... The
home that was decorated with tons and tons of lights didn’t compare to a
small light display that just said “Ditto.” We just can’t wait to see what we find
next year on our adventures with the Christmas lights tour.
Can you believe it’s already February? Well, I think
we all know this is the month of love (Valentine’s
Day), but did you know that the months of January
and February were add-ons to our present calendar
when it changed from a 10-month to a 12-month
Roman calendar by Numa Pompilous, somewhere
around 700 BC.? Did you know February is the
only month of the year that can pass without a
single full moon, because it only has 29 days most
years? No doubt there are many more interesting
facts about our month of February, but one thing
for sure is that we will be seeing lots of flowers and
chocolate here at The Woodmark. Our activities
calendar is full of fun events and I know we will
have more than a few opportunities to get out and
enjoy our beautiful Arizona weather. Thank you for
calling The Woodmark at Sun City your home.
THIS MONTH’S
silver star
MYRNA HAWTHORNE was born in
Highland County, Ky. She grew up on a dairy
farm with her five brothers. They had to get up at
4 a.m. every day to milk 40 head of cows. She did
everything on the farm — bale hay, etc. Myrna
was a cheerleader and her brothers played on the
basketball team. They always had to finish the
chores before they could go to the games.

Myrna Hawthorne
Myrna married her high school sweetheart at 17. Myrna was a model in her 20’s.
They had one daughter, who is the best thing that ever happened to her. She now
has two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren She moved to Phoenix when
their daughter was 4 in 1954. They had moved from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Myrna worked for Honeywell for 40 years as a purchasing supervisor. Myrna
loved to golf and bowl. She even taught junior bowling for many years.
Myrna loves living at the Woodmark. “It is the Best!” She has made many
friends here. The staff and residents are the “best.”

JOANNA ARENIVAS
ROSENDO was born and
raised in Arizona and graduated
from Millennium High School.
Joanna is the oldest of three
children. She has one brother
and one sister and now has a
brand new 3-month-old baby
girl of her own. Her mother,
Joanna Arenivas Rosendo
Olga, has worked in the
Monarch for 10 years as a caregiver. She used to bring Joanna
as a little girl to visit with the residents. She is now a very
important part of our family. Joanna manages all of our dining
needs. She is a caring, honest individual. She is a true asset to the
Woodmark and is greatly appreciated. She shows great respect
for our residents. Teamwork comes naturally. I am very proud
and fortunate to have her on our team.
