LENTEN BIBLE STUDY
A Bible study for Lent will begin on Tuesday, February 10, 9:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall. The
study is titled “Gripped By The Greatness Of God” by James MacDonald. Cost - $11 for workbook
The study will end on March 31, 2015.
In this study, MacDonald teaches about Isaiah’s encounters with God and leads us to rediscover the
wonder of God’s Holiness, Awesomeness, Sovereignty, and other attributes that draw forth worship
and result in changed lives gripped by God’s greatness. Consider this wonderful study as part of your
Lenten discipline. Accept this invitation by calling the church—751-2503 or Lillian Sharpe—9369014 (email—[email protected])

WORSHIP ASSISTANTS ~ FEBRUARY 2015
It is such an honor for me to serve a church with people who are as gifted and
dedicated to Christ as you are. As we enter this new month of February, there
are several opportunities I want to lift up. Last year our Joel Report described
several strategies we felt would help us increase our effectiveness. The Report
included the recommendation to start to two new teams or committees as we
have called them in the past. The Family Ministries Team organized and surveyed the congregation to determine needs and has identified two needs on
which they are working: youth said they wanted activities at the church and
strengthening of marriages was indicated by many adults. Already we have
held one Fifth Quarter for youth in the church and community following a Friday night basketball game
and another one is planned in February. We believe this can grow to reach many youth in a safe, fun environment. The Family Ministries Team has chosen a strategy called “Married People” through which to
strengthen marriages. Jayne Walker, Family Ministries Chair, will speak about this strategy on February 8
at the worship services which is well-timed with the approach of Valentine’s Day later that week. The Congregational Care Team has organized and developed several strategies to enhance how we care for our
members and attendees. On February 1 and 8 Mike Hendrix, the Chair, will present a form on which you
can volunteer to assist in several initiatives that we believe will help us do an even better job of caring for
one another. Along those same lines the Mission Team wants to offer to pick up anyone who needs transportation to church using our bus. They will start by offering it on second Sundays of the month. If you
need transportation, call the church office. If you want to help, do the same. On Sunday, February 1 we
will recognize the Honduras Medical Mission team and offer our prayer support. Dr. Joel Edwards leads
the team and Dave Salmon is a team member. Keep the team in your prayers. They depart Feb. 6 and
return Feb. 15. On February 15 we will celebrate our Boy Scout ministry at the 8:45 AM worship service.
The Pack has excellent leadership and strong support. Let’s join in showing our support. The Pack’s Pinewood Derby will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2pm at the FLC. We will receive new members on Sunday,
February 15. If interested, please contact me to discuss. We will begin the season of Lent with our Ash
Wednesday Service on February 18 at 7:00 PM. Ash Wednesday is a time to lament our sin and receive
the imposition of ashes as a reminder of our need of a Savior. The season of Lent is the forty days prior to
Easter excluding Sundays during which we seek to grow closer to the Lord and reach out to those in need.

FUMC Parents & Children! On Saturday, February 28th, the church will be taking
a trip to Bumper Jumpers Indoor Park in Greensboro, NC. This trip would be open to
children from 1-year-old through elementary school age, and a parent/grandparent//
guardian will need to be present for any child who attends. We will leave the church
at 1:00pm to travel together to the park, and return to the church around 4:30pm. (Or
families can meet us there at 2pm.) Information on Open Play, pricing for children
and adults, as well as the on-line waiver form, can be found on their website, www.bumperjumpers.com.
If you and your children/grandchildren would like to attend, please e-mail Tracy
Huneycutt by February 22nd at [email protected] to register, and also indicate
if you would need bus transportation or not.
"Faith Files" Children's Program! The church will begin a trial run of this children's ministry opportunity from March to May, on Sunday evenings from 5-6pm,
and we need a group of positive, upbeat volunteers (ages 16 or older) to help us get
started! The program will be based on Bristol House's "Faith Files," and will serve
the age groups of one- and two-year olds, three- and four-year olds, Kindergarten
through 3rd grade, and 4th and 5th graders. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet
the spiritual needs of the existing families and children we have at our church, as well
as be an outreach to families and children within our community.
