SCC Twin Cities Chapter Chair Chat Hello again Twin Cities Chapter Members! As usual, it has been a busy time for the Twin Cities Chapter of the SCC (in contrast to our neighbors in nearby Lake ). We kicked off our Fall season in September with our traditional “Boat Cruise”/ Poster Session. This year we “cruised” the Mississippi River, on The Paradise Lady out of Minneapolis. It was a beautiful boat, perfect weather (no surprise here in MN!) and a great venue for our poster presenters. Many thanks to the vendors who exhibited and generously supported the event. In October, we returned to St. Paul for a delicious dinner at Moscow on the Hill (with thanks to our lovely and talented house arranger Debbie Carroccio) and a great talk by Dr. Tara Mullen of BioAmber Inc. on Natural Succinic Acid: A Building-Block for Novel Personal Care Ingredients. Special kudos to Tara for delivering her talk “without a net”…or projector, or visual aids, due to our unfortunate technical difficulties with the projector! Our Chapter elections netted us a “veteran” Board for 2015, with 2014 Secretary Justin Steinke getting the nod as 2015 Chair Elect, and Gabrielle Damjanovic returning to the post of Secretary for 2015. Smita Fulzele (2015 Chair), and Bronson Damjanovic (2015 Treasurer) round out the 2015 TCCSCC officers. Our officer installation was held at the beautiful Loring Pasta Bar, with Lisa Jones, Area III Director doing the honors. The meeting also included an excellent presentation by Eileen Moyer, North American Head of Regulatory Affairs and Product Safety for Givaudan Fragrances, on Regulatory Changes and Their Impacts on Fragrances. During the election, the membership also voted on who should be the recipient of our chapter’s speaker award. This year, the honor will go to Dr. Marna Ericson, from the University of Minnesota, for her talk on skin imaging and hair growth dynamics. The year is quickly drawing to a close, as is my time as Chapter Chair. I went from being a very sporadic meeting attendee to being chair elect, to chair, in rapid succession, and it feels like only yesterday when I stepped into the role. It has been a great experience, and I have been glad to get to know many of you better, and to be more deeply involved in the “business” of keeping the chapter going. If you’re thinking of being an officer, it will be both more work and more fun than you think. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the past 2 years. I hope to see all of you (or at least many of you) at the annual Holiday Party and Casino Night next week! We are returning to the Roseville Radisson as a venue, with Aces High providing the entertainment. I’m sure it will be a good time, and will be even better for the rest of us if YOU come! This outing is traditionally supported in part by the raw material suppliers. Donations will be used to purchase prizes to be raffled off during the casino portion of the evening. We are asking that suppliers consider a cash contribution for this event. We will be keeping the same format as in years past, raffling off several gifts that are purchased using the cash contributions and attendance fees. If you would prefer to purchase a gift to be raffled with the other prizes, that is also acceptable. Just bring the gift with you on the day of the event.
