Putting young people at the centre of planning their lives and support 12th February 2015 Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham Background The Children and Families Act requires everyone working with disabled children and young people and those with SEN to support them to participate as fully as possible in making decisions about their lives and support and local services. This means taking account of the views, wishes and feelings of children and young people. But how do we really, • Have different conversations with young people and their families that help them have good futures and • Ensure that we use this learning when developing education, health and care plans and supporting people to transfer from statements and LDAs Person centred tools and approaches have a key role to play in ensuring that the voice of young people is placed at the centre of planning their lives and support.
