Sentinel sites
•
As per the revised influenza surveillance guideline, JDWNRH, GRRH, MRRH and P/ling hospital will
discontinue weekly reporting with immediate effect.
•
Duration of fever required for samples collection from ILI cases will be lifted to increase sample collection.
•
Influenza sample collection will be done from Monday to Saturday in contrary to revised guideline sample
collection days (Monday to Wednesday).
•
Respective sentinel sites will follow old shipment schedule for sample shipment.
•
SARI focal persons (nurses) will enroll SARI cases for the Sentinel Human influenza study.
•
Any health professionals (CMO/ GDMO/ CO/ HA/Nurses/Lab) will enroll cases for the study irrespective of
CITI training. However, signature can be obtained from health professionals who are CITI certified.
•
Weekly ILI & SARI report should be reported in web-based even if reporting is not done on week day as
prescribed in the guideline.
•
Non study sentinel site may/may not perform influenza rapid testing since rapid testing is not mandatory for
the surveillance.
All the laboratories of the sentinel sites shall accommodate sample collection for influenza
surveillance/study beyond their scheduled sample collection time to get required sample size.


•
PHL will secure fund for onsite sensitization on influenza surveillance in sentinel sites. However, sentinel
sites are encouraged sensitizing on influenza surveillance during other public health program trainings in
respective sentinel sites.
•
PHL will arrange adequate shipment boxes for sample shipment.
•
PHL will provide feedback on sample quality and shipment condition to sentinel site and ship back sample
box in time.
•
PHL will discuss with Bhutan Post on shipment schedule.
•
PHL will make payment for broad band to those sentinel sites as an interim measure where there is
payment problem. However, hospital management has to secure funding for future payment.
•
PHL will provide supplies both for surveillance and study.
