Commodore’s Report
Hello Members,
We finally have a date for the official opening of the BIYC Club Room. Saturday19 th July
at 15:30 prior to our Annual Dinner at Blue Anchorage at 18:00. This has been a long
time coming, as I’m sure you are aware. However, before then the room will be available
for use by all members. We have nearly completed the room and when finished,
members will be able to access this facility to come down, relax on the lounge, read
books on sailing from our library, watch TV/DVDs enjoy some fellowship with other
members (and your friends if you wish) whilst have a cup of coffee overlooking the
beautiful Pumicestone Passage. Please take advantage of this facility as members. After
all, you have all contributed to it and it is long overdue. Invitations will be sent out soon
so please try and keep the 19 July free for this historic event.
I have included the latest Events Calendar for your reference. There are a few events
over the next few months including the VMR’s Sunset Drinks on the last Friday of each
month. Please try and attend, in your club shirts, as these have been a great social
event for both clubs.
As a reminder, please review the PRO roster on the calendar to see if you are on PRO
duty for a race. As previously indicated, if you cannot make it on that date you will need
to arrange with another member to fill in for you as PRO. We have had a number of
races where the PRO did not show up on the day. This put unnecessary pressure on
other members to arrange flags, time sheets etc.
To assist in this process the committee has agreed that our notification procedure has let
us down so in the future;
1. NOR will be sent out earlier, at least a week before to all members
2. PRO will be sent the PRO procedure along with sign on and time sheets. This will
serve as a reminder to the elected PRO
VC Sail, Charles Baker will work with Secretary John Padley to ensure these are sent out
at an appropriate time.
Important Notice to ALL skippers
On Sunday 6th July we are holding our unique Keith Reinhold single handed race. As we
have a few skippers unable to make this event, myself included, we are concerned that
we may not get sufficient numbers for this event particularly as we know of a few
surrounding clubs showing interest in participating. Can all skippers indicate ASAP if
they intend competing in the race or if a more suitable date would be
preferred?
See you on the water,
Malcolm Hollywood
Sailing Report Vice Commodore Sail
An up to date calendar has been inserted in this MIAB. Please discard any previous
editions and ensure your latest copy has the most recent revision date at the top of the
page.
Membership
We have a few prospective members possibly joining soon so please keep an eye out for
them and introduce yourselves to them.
Our current membership is now 31.
We will be embarking on a new Learn to Sail campaign soon using banners and media
articles. We are also looking at doing a Bunnings or Masters sausage sizzle as a means
of raising funds, as well as promoting the club. As a member, I would hope some of you
will offer your time to assist if possible.
For Sale
Fred Reeves has “Easyway” for sale, please contact Fred on 0408559070 for more details
if interested.
Social Report
All Shook Up
A frivolous but vigorous Rock'n'Roll musical presented by Dougie and the
Dreamers which incorporates all your favourite songs from the 50's and 60's.
While Loretta and Johnny, the stars of the show, resolve their problems in song,
the audience is invited to hit the dance floor with enthusiasm (style and rhythm
are not required)! Falling asleep is not an option as vigorous clapping and
energetic (if not melodious) singing are part of your role!
Guys: drag those blue suede shoes from the wardrobe and dust off the stovepipe trousers! Girls: put on your mod wig and mini!
Join us for a blast from the past:

Also VMR Sunset drinks last Friday each month.
Fundraising
As you should be aware, the club has had a difficult year financially and has arranged a
Sausage Sizzle at Masters in August to raise much needed funds as well as promoting
our club to the Caboolture community. Final details will be sent out soon, please help out
if you can.
Some terms for new sailors

or meals.
-Luff- The Front part of a sail that everyone but the helmsman seems to pay attention
to (see also Telltales)
-Luff up- Something racers do to each other to catch the back of the fleet Head -(See
Stern Pulpit)
-Halyard- Something that only breaks or jams when you're winning
-Sheet- A line made to rip gloves or hands part. Has ability to tangle on anything.
-Backstay- The last thing to grab as you're falling overboard
-Hatch- A hole to fall into
Donation
I have accepted a very generous donation from Lauren Wade from Pebble Beach. She
and her late husband were ocean sailors from Canada and settled in Australia. Lauren
and her family have now decided to return to Canada and in her words “We would prefer
to donate the last of our sailing equipment back to the sport of sailing rather than have
to sell it cheap in a garage sale. We had many fun family times sailing and hope your
club will benefit.” Lauren has allow us to sell off what we don’t need and keep what we
want. I am in the process of cataloguing these items and will send out a list to you all
when completed. This is a very generous offer from the Wade family and we thank then
dearly.
Try doing this Charles Baker when you’re pushing More
Dough!
Maintenance
The club has just purchased 2 new Learn to Sail banners to be displayed on Council
locations at the Bribie Bridge and Morayfield. We have had to write off the previous
banner as it was not cleaned and stored correctly. Should any member use or place
these banners on behalf of the club, can you please ensure they are cleaned, rolled up
on the cardboard rolls provided and stored appropriately when finished. They are
expensive to replace, and if they are cared for, like all BIYC equipment, should last a
long time.
