Dear Church Family,
An opportunity has presented itself for several improvements to the sanctuary. I would like to share these with you
so you can provide comments and feedback.
As many of you know, the stairs leading out of the sanctuary
in the northeast corner are very steep and difficult to maneuver. The fall risk is significant whether you have physical
limitations or not. Several church members have fallen or
have had a near-fall experience. The current stairs are also a
bottle neck for members and visitors leaving the sanctuary.
Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, funds have
been provided to alter these stairs to make them safe and
more maneuverable. Careful planning with the consulting of
several physical therapists and the American Disabilities Act
website has resulted in a proposed plan which is depicted
below. The proposed stairs are wider and have a shorter rise
than the original ones along with railings on both sides. Approval from the Financial Oversight Committee, the Executive Committee, and the Board of Trustees has been secured. The next step is to obtain a vote of confidence from
the congregation and a final vote from the Official Board in
late July. I welcome your comments. Joey Flippo and Dennis
Murray have graciously donated their time to do the labor. I
anticipate, if the board approves, work to begin in late August.
In addition to the construction of the northeast corner
stairs, consideration is being given to replacing the outdated
sound system in the sanctuary. Many church members have
commented on how poorly the sound has been in the sanctuary, especially when we have a combined service. A sound
system upgrade will result in a richer more balanced sound
during the traditional, contemporary services, weddings,
and funeral services. This new sound system will also require minimal set up time to accommodate different sound
needs by the different services and activities in the sanctuary.
The cost of replacing existing equipment, the purchase of an
expanded sound board, electrical work, and other sound
related modifications, is approximately $40,000. Bids are
still being reviewed so an exact cost has not yet been determined. A separate fundraising program will be kicked off in
August to assist with raising these funds.
Our beautiful sanctuary was designed and built as a place of
worship where our members and guests have gathered
every Sunday for the past ninety-one years. These improvements will ensure that our sanctuary remains a place of
worship for the next ninety-one years. Proposed improvements will give our members and guests a safe and sound
place to worship.
Our priority is to maintain the sacred integrity of the sanctuary with both projects. The stairs will be built with church
esthetics in mind while the new sound system will be
unseen other than the speakers, which for acoustics, will be
moved from their current position to a more appropriate
location in order to improve sound.
By making these changes today, we follow in the footsteps
of those in the past who worked to keep our sanctuary
relevant by making carefully thought-out improvements.
They did this when the first air conditioner system was
installed, when the new pipe organ was installed and
relocating the choir loft. These were not simple changes but
they were for the benefit of the church and its ministries.
Over the years, we have been blessed with a congregation
willing to move forward with change, when needed.
Please call me at 573-9788 so I may address your questions
and concerns.

Chairman of the Official Board

Celebrations
We celebrate the magnificent celebration of our nation’s birth this last
Sunday during our combined traditional service! The music provided by
our guest musicians and choir was glorious, the sermon by Dr. Bobby
Cook outstanding. We thank all who made this possible and God to
whom we give all the glory!
We celebrate the 10th anniversary of KHCC welcoming into our family
Jesús, Ellie and Ely Maria Bulnes. We are truly blessed!
Congratulations to Kelli and Nick Crews on the birth of Charlotte
“Charlie” Lynn Crews, born June 25th. Kelli is a Timothy from our congregation. “Charlie’s” proud grandmother is Barbara Driscoll.

A Note of Thanks from your Ministers
On July 1st, ten years ago, Jesús and I arrived, full of
excitement and expectation, at KHCC for our first
day of work. It had been a long immigration process.
The semester prior to our graduation from the Christian Theological Seminary, we were interviewed at
KHCC. Jesús was applying to be the initiator of a
Hispanic Ministry. Of course, he asked me to come
with him. What a surprise when the research committee let us know they had approved Jesús for the
position, but they wanted to offer the same position
to me as well, as co-minister for the new Hispanic
Ministry. That proposal changed our lives.
We won’t deny Shreveport was not an attractive city
for us, coming from Indianapolis. However, it did not
take us long to realize that Shreveport and its people, especially the people from KHCC, were magical,
kind, and so hospitable. The blessings we have had
since we arrived at KHCC are countless. We now
have a hometown, a home church, a family, and a
blessed life. Our daughter, Ely María, was 6 years old
when we came; now she is a junior in high school.
What a great blessing to see our child to grow up in
the midst of so much stability, safeness, and among
loving people.
We are unable to find the appropriate words to
express our immense feelings of gratitude towards
those who have been instrumental in giving us the
chance to serve in God’s ministry. We are truly
blessed to have such a wonderful "family".
Since we are at loss for words, it might be best to
simply express our appreciation with sincere and
profound thanks for all your support throughout
these ten wonderful years. We will treasure you
forever.
Many, many thanks and many, many blessings to
you all!
