LAY MINISTRY SUNDAY Lay Ministry Sunday is celebrated throughout the diocese this weekend of February 14/15. This will be an opportunity to affirm and celebrate the many dedicated lay women and men who give tirelessly of their time and talent in service to others and to the Church as liturgical ministers, ministers of consolation, members of the finance and pastoral councils, adult faith formation coordinators, liturgical planners and so many other ways. Please join us for a special celebration honoring these dedicated volunteers at all the Masses. ——— As part of the diocesan recognition of Lay Ministry Sunday the Pastoral Institute is offering a special opportunity to gather today Sunday, February 15th at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 110-06 Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills beginning at 4:30 pm. Fr. Frank DeSiano, CSP, President of Paulist Evangelization Ministries, will be the keynote speaker. Bishop Paul Sanchez will celebrate Solemn Evening Vespers and there will be a light reception following. BOY SCOUT SUNDAY A Scout is Reverent Boy Troop 390, chartered here at Saint Teresa’s, will be holding its annual Scout Sunday Mass Service on Sunday, February 22nd, during the 9:00 am and 10:30 am Masses. Please note this is a change from the originally scheduled date. We ask everyone to join us as we celebrate the twelfth point of the Scout Law - A Scout is Reverent. Cenizas se distribuirán durante todas las misas y servicios el miércoles de ceniza. YOUTH RETREAT * FREE SATURDAY, February 21st 1:30 pm - 7 pm St. Teresa’s Church, Woodside LENT BEGINS - ASH WEDNESDAY The holy season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday February 18th and extends for forty days. Easter Sunday is April 5th. Ashes will be distributed during all Masses and services on Ash Wednesday. The schedule for Ash Wednesday, February 18th is as follows: 8:00 am - Mass (English), 12 pm - Mass (Bilingual), 4:00 pm - Service (Bilingual), 7:30 pm – Mass (Spanish) LENTEN REGULATIONS FOR 2014 Ash Wednesday and Good Friday: Days of Fast and Abstinence. Limit of one full meal on these days for Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive. All Fridays in Lent: Days of Abstinence, from meat. For all Catholics who have reached their 14th year. Weekdays of Lent: There is no obligation to fast. However, voluntary acts of self-denial are recommended. Acts of Voluntary Self-Denial: May include, in addition to fasting: Participation in daily Mass, spiritual studies, Lenten Devotions, Stations of the Cross, saying the Rosary, deeds of mercy and kindness. MASSES AVAILABLE Many daily Masses at 8 am (Monday thru Friday) do not have intentions in the coming weeks. If you wish to offer the Mass for anyone, living or deceased, please contact the rectory office. Stipends remain $15.00 each. OFFICE CLOSED The Rectory Offices will be closed Monday, February 16th in observance of “Presidents’ Day”. “OUR GRIEF IS AS INDIVIDUAL AS OUR LIVES” A bereavement group is being formed here at St. Teresa. Our first session will run for a period of six weeks, beginning on Saturday February 21 at 2:30 in the Parish Center. The group will run for 6 consecutive Saturdays, closing out our first session on March 28. As space is limited, we ask that you notify the rectory if you are interested in attending. No one will be excluded, we will add sessions if necessary. Grief is a personal process, but we are not alone in suffering. GOOD NEWS! 2014 A.C.A. Last week we received a check for $3,676.00 from the Diocese of Brooklyn. The money represents the final over-goal contributions of our parishioners to the Diocesan 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal. In summary, our 2014 parish goal was $41,195.00 A total of 196 parishioners pledged $46,710.00 - only 20 donors did not complete their pledge commitment.
