(monthly payment option available)
At the YMCA, we know that it takes more
than six to eight weeks to develop effective
lifelong water-safety skills. That is why we
are thrilled to offer the YMCA Canada
continuous swim lesson model: eliminate
the hassle of continuous re-registration
as you register only once. Members sign
up for a convenient time slot that continues
throughout the year.
All levels will happen during the same time
slot. If you have a family with several
children, they can all participate at the same
time, giving you the freedom to schedule
other activities throughout the day.
Participants will progress at their own pace without the
pressure of completing levels within the typical lesson set
structure and time frame. Provides continuous feedback
and promotes relationship building between the
instructor, swimmer and families.
•   75% Attendance in a season is required to maintain
your swimming spot. To maintain your swimming spot
please inform the YMCA if missing 2 classes in a row.
•   Progress Cards will be given at the end of a season,
Children need to have attended at least 4 lessons prior
to progress cards
•   No Swim Lessons during Seasonal Breaks (Spring Break:

within the session in order to receive a progress
card. If the registrant misses two swim classes in

meet each swimmer’s individual needs. All lessons

Physical Literacy and YMCA Programs
The YMCA understands that physical literacy is an important part of a child’s healthy development. When children acquire and practice
fundamental movement and sport skills at a young age they are more likely to stay active and maintain healthy habits in adulthood. YMCA
Staff that lead these programs are trained in National Coaching Certification Program Fundamental Movement Skills (NCCP FMS). Aligned with
the Canadian Sport for Life’s Long Term Athlete Development Framework (CS4L LTAD), all YMCA programs provide children and youth the
opportunity to practice and improve their physical literacy skills developing movement confidence and competence to be “Active for Life.”
Active Start
FUNdamentals
Learn to Train
Learn basic movement skills and link
them together into play. Develop habits
of being active.
Learn fundamental movement
skills and build agility, balance and
coordination.
Transition to high performance
for those with appropriate
skills and motivation.
Boys 0-6 and Girls 0-6
Boys 6-9 and Girls 6-8
Boys 9-12 and Girls 8-11
These first 3 stages set the foundation for developing physical literacy.
Active for Life
Participants who have developed physical literacy
can transition smoothly into being “Active for Life.”
In addition, there should be a smooth transition
from an athlete’s competitive career into lifelong
activity and participation in sport.
Stage ends
with onset of
adolescent
growth spurt.
Train to Train
Build aerobic base, develop speed
and strength towards the end of
this stage, and further develop and
consolidate sport skills.
PHYSICAL LITERACY: Acquiring skills and confidence
allows individuals to enjoy a variety of sports and
physical activities ~ Canadian Sport for Life

For those suffering from persistent aches and sore
muscles, a massage therapy session is a relaxing
way to target those troublesome areas after a hard
workout. Massage therapy can be beneficial in
decreasing pain, physical discomfort and tension
while increasing circulation, speeding recovery from
injury and promoting total relaxation.
Massage therapy is a hands-on treatment with an
experienced Registered Massage Therapist who
will assess your body’s high-tension areas and treat
them accordingly. Whether it’s kneading specific
parts of the body to promote circulation or targeting
overworked muscles, massage therapy is useful for
anyone looking for a soothing way to wind down
from a long day.
Offered exclusively through the Don Wheaton
and Jamie Platz Family YMCAs, massage therapy is
offered by Target Your Energy, an Edmonton-based
personal fitness and development provider.
To schedule your next massage treatment, book
online at TargetYourEnergy.com or else ask to speak
to one of the therapists at 780-423-4FIT (4348).
