EMPLOYMENT NOTICE
Applications are invited from eligible candidates for filling up 1(one) post each of Private
Secretary, Stenographer Grade-II and Stenographer Grade-III in the Establishment of the High Court of
Sikkim. The eligibility criteria/educational qualifications and the respective Pay Bands and Grade pays of
the above mentioned posts are as under:-

Eligibility Criteria
By direct recruitment from
amongst candidates possessing
Degree of a recognized
University with proficiency in
short hand (English) with a
speed of 100 w.p.m. and
knowledge of Computer
Operation with typing speed of
40 w.p.m. on computer.
By direct recruitment from
amongst Graduate candidates
from a recognized University
possessing certificate in
computer from any Computer
center and having a minimum
speed of 80 w.p.m. in
shorthand and 40 w.p.m. in
typing.
By direct recruitment from
amongst Class XII passed
candidates from a recognized
Board possessing certificate in
computer from any Computer
center and having a minimum
speed of 80 w.p.m. in
shorthand and 40 w.p.m. in
typing.
*Note: - The post of Private Secretary at Sl. No.1 is likely to fall vacant only from 01.11.2014.

Age limit: -
Minimum 18 years
Maximum 30 years as on 30.08.2014.
In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, the maximum age
relaxation is up to five years, for Most Backward Classes four years and for Other Backward Classes three
years.

3. Candidates fulfilling the above conditions may apply for the post along with supporting documents duly
attested and 3 (three) passport size photographs to the undersigned. Applications received without
supporting documents and photographs will be summarily rejected.
4. The last date for receipt of applications is 30.08.2014.
5. Applications received after the last date i.e. 30.08.2014 shall not be entertained on any ground.
6. Those who are already in Government service shall apply through proper channel.
7. All applications should be accompanied by a Bank Demand Draft of
50/- (non-refundable) payable at
Gangtok and drawn in favour of Registrar General, High Court of Sikkim, Gangtok.
8. Candidates found eligible on preliminary scrutiny shall be called for written examination/selection test
by the High Court. The list of names of candidates found eligible will be displayed on the Notice Board of
the High Court of Sikkim and/or the eligible candidates will be intimated through SMS in their mobile
numbers mentioned in their applications along with the date of written examination/selection test.
9. Admit Cards to the candidates found eligible on preliminary scrutiny will be issued from the office of
the Deputy Registrar (Estt.), Registry of this High Court from 10.09.2014 to 13.09.2014 between
10:30 a.m. and 04:00 p.m.
10. The examinations will be held in three phases: (i) Written examination in English and General
Knowledge, (ii) Shorthand, Typing and Computer Application, (iii) Viva Voce. Candidates who
obtain qualifying marks as prescribed below, in the written examination will be selected and called for (ii)
Shorthand, Typing and Computer Application, that is, candidates who obtain qualifying marks in (i) and
(ii) will be selected and called for Viva-Voce
Final selection will be made on the basis of the combined marks of all subjects detailed below
including Viva-Voce.

The syllabus for the written test is as follows:-
a)
English
100 marks
40% will be the qualifying
percentage.
- Essay writing, letter writing,
Idioms & Phrases, Common
Error, Preposition, Synonyms,
Antonyms, One word substitution etc.
b)
General Knowledge
100 marks
40% will be the qualifying
percentage.
- Knowledge of current affairs,
Objective questions
c)
Shorthand and Transcription
100 marks
40% will be the qualifying
percentage.
- (a) Speed test will be 100 w.p.m. for the post
of Private Secretary and 80 w.p.m. for the
post of Stenographers
(b) 10 minutes for dictation of 600 words.
(c) 20 minutes for transcription of the
shorthand of 600 words, allowing 30 errors.
(d) If more than 30 errors detected entire
paper to be rejected.

Typing
100 marks
40% will be the qualifying
percentage.
- (a) Speed test will be 40 words per minute.
(b) 10 minutes for typing 350 words
(c) 15 errors in 350 words allowed.
(d) If more than 15 errors detected entire
paper to be rejected
e)
Computer Application
100 marks
40% will be the qualifying percentage.
- Test in Basic Computer Application
f)
Viva Voce
100 marks
40% will be the qualifying percentage.
12. The Registry of the High Court of Sikkim reserves the right to accept or reject any application, with or
without any reason.
13. No separate calling letter will be issued to the eligible candidates for the written examination/selection
test.
14. Candidates may bring their own laptops on the date of written examination/selection test, if any.
15. No. T.A/D.A. shall be paid for appearing at the interview / selection test.
