Are you using Edsby well? Our school’s student engagement system is designed to help students be successful. Edsby is
an important way for students, staff, parents and guardians to intersect. We expect students to check their classes DAILY
for messages, deadlines, assignments, handouts, as well as grades and comments. For example, when TDChristian has a
snow day, students can check Edsby for messages or work from their teachers. If a student is absent, he or she could check
Edsby in addition to connecting with a classmate or teacher for what work was done or what decisions were made. Edsby is
also set up so that parents and guardians are in the educational loop. Some use it for support, others for information. To find
out more about Edsby (its benefits, features, as well as how it works) check edsby.com.
This semester, to encourage and help students and families, we will be publishing THREE electronic interim learning reports
instead of one paper report. The first one is today, the second one is on April 7 and the third is on May 12. To view ALL Learning Reports use the link entitled VIEW REPORT CARDS found just under the list of classes on the left side of the Edsby
student’s screen.
Why three electronic reports? The first reason is to give more frequent feedback. Secondly, we want students and families to
use Edsby more regularly. As teachers learn the features of Edsby, many are including messages and comments (not only
in the feed) but also in the Gradebook under assignments. The emphasis is on providing dynamic or real-time information
rather than a static, one-time paper report. Our desire is to optimize Edsby’s powers for the students’ good.
As with all changes, there will be growing pains and adjustments. Because there are three reports, there will be more class
comments (especially for today’s reports) but there will also be increased feedback on Learning Skills during the semester.
Teachers will, for all courses but the Science quarters, write at least one personal comment on the three reports.
At TDChristian, we are committed to working with and for you. Let me know where we are using Edsby well and where we
might improve. Feel free to give feedback on this new way of interim reporting. I am excited about the possibilities.
Finally, Learning Dialogues during which students, teachers and parents/guardians meet to discuss students’ learning are
still scheduled for Thursday, April 15 and Thursday, April 22. We anticipate sending an email blast in early April for you to
sign up for those dates.
March Break
We, at TDChristian, wish all you a wonderful March break. This Thursday is our last day before the break. Tuesday, March
18 is the first day back after the break.

Gr. 10 French/History class escorted back from Vancouver by Don Cherry
On Monday, 30 students from the Grade 10 French History block returned from a week stay near Vancouver. We were
royally treated by our hosts at Maple Ridge Christian School, who shared the city of Vancouver with us, showed us incredible mountain sights from the Peakto-Peak gondola at Whistler, took us
to stately Victoria, and time-travelled
with us into the colonial past at Fort
Langley. Our students were twinned
with their students, and in short order
they formed strong bonds of friendship. We experienced the beauty and
vastness of our country, discovered
the commonalities we share with Canadian Christian school students at
the other end of the country, and look
forward eagerly to their return visit in
May, when we get to show them our
part of the country. As a bonus, we
met Don Cherry and Ron MacLean
at Vancouver airport, and shared
the flight back to Toronto with them.
Memorable photo-ops, autographs
and conversations!

On Thursday, March 27, Grade 10 students across the province will write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

literacy (reading and writing) skills expected by The Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.
