From the Chair Tonight we welcome Western Springs to Phyllis St and it doesn’t get any easier for our lads as they play against the form team who are now clear leaders of the league and almost certainly heading for promotion. The boys know they are in for a hard game but if they keep playing like they have, but convert their chances, then a win is not impossible. Last weekend Stu, Jake and the boys travelled to the Shore and gave a good account against a team battling along with us near the wrong end of the table. It was a very even game and unfortunately once again we couldn’t convert the many chances we had and came away 2-1 losers. A draw would have been a fair result and Shore also couldn’t have complained if we had won. Once again the focus was not on the good football played by both sides but the poor officiating. The ref was below par but his AR’s were so bad even the ref complained to me after the game! The awarding of a penalty against our boys was not seen by anyone at the park and I am not sure the ref even saw it! Sorry to keep harping on about this issue but it is getting worse each year. The young referee who did the reserve game and his two young assistants were far superior and need to be promoted as quickly as possible. The reserves suffered with a few late withdrawals that left the side struggling against a Shore team up near the top of the table. Some of these young lads need to realise that it is a team game and they are not just letting the coaches, but the rest of the team down as well. If they want to make Napier they need to show more commitment. Don’t forget to pencil in Friday 19th September for Senior Prizegiving. Looking at being around $25.00 a head so start saving!
