In addition the Sevenoaks Music Club will present prizes of £50 each to the second and third prize winners and a recital in their December 2015 concert at the Ship Theatre, Sevenoaks. The Lydian Orchestra Based in SE England, the orchestra was founded in 1976 by a violin teacher, June Clements, with the aim of giving local talented young musicians the chance to come together and perform some of the more challenging orchestral works. Many young players have gone on to professional careers and notable soloists over the years include Emma Johnson, Alexander Baillie, Steven Isserlis, Peter Oundjian and Shira Epstein. The orchestra gives three concerts a year after a short, intensive rehearsal period. Tours have included Paris, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy and four separate performances at the Edinburgh Festival. In 2011 players travelled to Bruges, Brussels and Antwerp, and in 2013 to Wiesbaden. There is also a Workshop every two years when aspiring soloists who are members of the orchestra can try out concerto movements. Some of these players have subsequently entered the YMY Competition. Recent YMY winners have performed concertos by Bruch (violin), Mendelssohn (violin), Dvorak (cello), Tchaikovsky (violin), Gershwin (piano) and Grieg (piano). All details of the orchestra may be found on its website at www.lydian.org.uk. Sevenoaks Young Musician of the Year Competition As a member of the Sevenoaks Three Arts Festival committee June Clements proposed and inaugurated this competition in 1995. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the musical education and development of the young people of Sevenoaks, The Sevenoaks District Arts Council will present each year, following the concerto performance, a silver June Clements Memorial Medal to the Young Musician Competition winner. | | | Sevenoaks Young Musician of the Year | | Entry Form 2015 ________________________________________________ | Name ________________________________________________ | Address ________________________________________________ | ________________________________________________ | Post Code Telephone ________________________________________________ | Email Address ________________________________________________ | Age on 8 March 2015 ________________________________________________ | Standard attained by 12 January 2015 ________________________________________________ | Instrument ________________________________________________ | Details of my recital are shown overleaf and I | undertake to send a photograph (pdf format) by email | I enclose a cheque for £60, payable to Sevenoaks Three Arts Festival, in respect of my entry fee and a further | cheque for £25 which will be returned to me on the day of the Competition but will be cashed in the event | of my non-appearance without prior notification | I have read and undertake to abide by the regulations as laid down by the Sevenoaks Three Arts Festival | Signed | ________________________________________________ | Detach this entry form and return to: Tim Daniell, Competition Secretary, 51 Pembury Road, Tonbridge | TN9 2JB (email [email protected]) to arrive by 12 January 2015 |
