East River Foods’
American Dream
YRG Solutions recently completed
the pre press for the East River
Smokehouse Co’s range of turkey
meats.
Design work was created by brand design
agency Springetts and the packaging was
Flexo printed in 8 colours. The striking
imagery consists of duotone backgrounds
complementing full colour process images.

YRG Solutions have recently completed
the artwork and pre press management
for Pizza Express’s latest ‘£5 off Spring
Restaurant promotion’.
The striking range of pizza packs were printed
offset in five colours with two varnishes and
were also embossed.

Not only can people and companies identify
the status of any project immediately, the
whole Sku history is in one place and can
be accessed and utilised to review, compare
and annotate design PDFs within seconds, to
implement pack change functions effectively
and painlessly.
During the last few years YRG Group has
been providing packaging change workflow
solutions to its end-user and printer clients
alongside its standard pre press services.
workflow tool that is specifically designed
to help clients and users move packaging
design concepts from start to finish effortlessly,
including everyone that needs to be involved.
However, it is still quite surprising to regularly
meet, discuss and identify with
new potential clients that A)
they do not have a solution to
help them effectively manage
pack change projects or B) the
system they are working with
(sometimes supplied by their
incumbent pre press supplier)
is either hopelessly outdated or
lacking in the latest up-to-date
useful functionality.
WebCenter is basically the one place where
everything comes together. Structural design,
graphic design, business information, or
specifications: WebCenter has it all under
control. The search tools in WebCenter
make it easy to find projects and
documents based on very specific
metadata.
In addition, the systems they
might be using are sometimes
not technically supported by
robust software and therefore
rely upon the expertise of one
or two ‘techy’ individuals who
have developed the system
they are using.... But if these
individuals were to be hit by
the proverbial ‘Red Bus’ or
leave the client’s (or supplier’s)
businesses they are working
for, their whole pack change
function could probably fall into
chaos very quickly.

#makeonechange
YRG was advised in April that it had been
successful after the Quorn Foods team had
conducted a comprehensive review/tender for
this area of the company’s activities. As part
of the agreement YRG will provide Quorn
Foods with access to its internet based
packaging lifecycle management solution to
review, manage and control private label and
own-brand packaging projects.
Speaking for Quorn Foods, Ester Takacs,
Packaging Technology Manager, said, “We are
really looking forward to working closely with
YRG on our packaging projects.”
Steve Buxton, YRG Solutions Sales Director,
said, “We are absolutely delighted to have the
opportunity to work on the iconic Quorn Foods
brand and we are excited about the prospect
of involvement with the organisation and its
print suppliers“.
The organism was mycoprotein and its
discovery marked the beginning of a new
food phenomenon. After years of research
and development mycoprotein was grown
on a large enough scale to launch a range
of products in the UK – which today is sold
around the world as the Quorn range.
The Quorn™ story
In the early 1960s, a tiny organism was
found living naturally in the soil in a field
in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. This was the
‘eureka moment’ for food scientists on a global
search for new food sources to counteract the
predicted world food and protein shortages
that the forecasted population boom would
create.

The predicted world food shortage never
actually happened but it soon became
apparent that mycoprotein – the unique
ingredient in all Quorn products – offers
greater benefits than simply an extra supply of
food.
It offers great taste and health, convenience
and nutritional credentials that have become
increasingly more relevant to our society - as
captured in its current “#makeonechange”
Twitter hashtag campaign strapline.
YRG Eclipse have been chosen as
the preferred supplier to Insignia
Technologies at BioCity Scotland for
packaging mock-ups.
Insignia Technologies is an innovator in
sensing technologies, providing a range of
products that change colour when exposed to
a variety of gasses and UV light. Its main focus
being to provide indicators for the food industry
to detect how long a pack of food has been
opened (consume within indicators).
If you or your business are not using a
Workflow tool at the moment or are using
a system that you suspect has been
superseded, why not ask YRG to provide
an exploratory demonstration of the latest
system. It really could be the difference
between controlling pack change practices
and not letting projects control you.
For this reason YRG took the decision some
time ago to invest in a totally robust workflow
solution which was developed, supported
and provided by the world’s largest pre press
software specialist. The WebCenter solution
we operate is a state-of-the-art lifecycle

Napier Brown is Europe’s leading
independent non-refining sugar
distributor. The company provide
assured supply of a range of sugars,
competitively priced and to unique
specification, catering for all sectors of
the food industry: retail, manufacturing
and foodservice industries.
YRG Eclipse have provided film lidding,
lamination & label mock ups for Insignia over
the last 12 months, and founder Erik Smith
told us: “YRG Eclipse have been able to
adapt quickly to our needs, and have supplied
the best quality mock ups on extremely
tight turnaround times, which has allowed
us to deliver quickly into the FMCG market
in the UK and USA”. The film lidding stock
and labels have to be colour matched to
specific references to accurately match the
colour change of the inks as they react with
gas or UV. Erik also commented that “YRG
Eclipse have allowed us to deliver our new
technologies to customer without the need
for expensive and time consuming bulk print
runs, which has accelerated our NPD, as well
as giving us great cost benefits. We also use
them for our repro and flexo plates when we
do go to print, so we have got pretty much a
one stop shop that allows us to streamline our
processes and costs into market”.
The company has recently appointed YRG
Group as sole supplier for their pre press
packaging functions. Jo Ellis, Napier Brown
Packaging Change Manager, said, “I’ve
worked with YRG previously and always
found them to be extremely responsive and
supportive on pre press for all print processes
so I’m very pleased to link up with
them again at Napier Brown”.
Bob Hollingsworth YRG Group
Technical Director commented,
“We are really pleased to have the
chance to work with Napier Brown
and look forward to supporting
our new client on all aspects of
packaging and print in the future.”

and have chosen to work closely with DuPont
as a strategic partner on what we believe to be
the start of an exciting journey.
“These new pieces of
equipment are only the
beginning of a long term
project, which will see
other additions arriving
once the initial tests and
trials have been
carried out”.
The idea of moving forward with
this technology is to ensure the
optimum controlled exposure on

important as the quality and
high screening requirements are
evolving from plates into sleeves.
This will work hand in hand with our
current portfolio and complement
our offering to the market place.

Roy goes out
with a Vrrrrm!
YRG Group’s veteran pre press servant
and industry stalwart Roy Lumby retired
in June after 49 years working in the
printing and packaging industry.
In true Roy style his working career ended
with a fantastic finale as he was named as
the winner of a top of the range Mini Cooper
Sports car worth a cool £22k and £10,000 in
cash!

New ink jet proofer at Eclipse
YRG Eclipse has invested in the very
latest Ink Jet technology to extend
the production methods for their
comprehensive range of packaging
mock-ups.
The new U/V curing kit can convert a wide
range of materials up to 1,370mm wide at a

New faces at YRG
YRG Group continues to expand
through new investment, new
technology, acquisitions and new
divisions allowing penetration into new
market sectors. As a result the business
has taken on a number of new faces
over the last few months to support our
clients.
Dave Parker has joined from International

Print & Packaging. He will also provide support
services to new & existing printer clients.
Lindsey Dent has joined YRG Eclipse in a
client support role and is involved in the coordination and production of mock-up sales
sample projects.
Last but by no means least, Sue
Cottom joined YRG in February.
Roy won the May ‘Best of the Best’ luxury
car draw after he completed a Spot the Ball
competition. The car win was a surprise and
personally delivered to him after the organisers
had contacted him the day before to advise
that “he had won either £500 or the top prize.”
When the car rolled up outside with cameras
and curious neighbours on the street Roy
could not hide his surprise and delight.

Roy now plans to enjoy the supercar Mini in
between the holidays he and his wife Kate
have promised themselves over their working
lives. He retires with the best wishes of
everyone at YRG Group for a long, healthy
and happy retirement.
Sue previously worked for Aunt
Bessies in a Marketing role and brings
valuable insight into a branded client’s
design-to-print requirements. Sue will
support existing and new FMCG clients
to manage projects.
